I had a dream about a girl I use to have a crush on back in high school. But the odd part part about the dream is that in takes place in a school. And I'm walking down the hallway and I look to my right. I see what appears to be a gate/fence blocking off the hallway in that direction. I walk to it and as I do she walks right by it on the other side. She looks in my direction for a brief moment as she walks by. Later I came across a second fence but on the outside of the school, dividing the two parts of the school. Again she walks by it at the same time as I do, still on the other side of the fence. But this time she doesn't look in my direction.
The fence might represent a barrier between social circles in high school as you saw it then. When she looked briefly in your direction you feel she knew about your feelings for her, and when she did'nt look in your direction it's because you feel she never returned your affection(felt the same about you)
I think the fence represents a time that has passed for you .It means she and you will always have pleasant memories but it is time to move on in different directions .
I can honestly say it seems like you pin pointed exactly how I thought in high school back then. And the social barrier as you put it, would be the fact she was a prep and i was more of a skater/loner type.
