Faking cancer becomes a popular past-time in Canada.

Do you remember the cancer faker who was recently convicted of fraud over $5000? Well, as horrible as it may sound, there was just another Ontario woman who has played the same game. 21-year-old Jessica Leeder was arrested on November 5 2010 for fraud, according to police.

The Timmins, ON police, the woman doesn't have cancer, nor did she ever. Apparently, she faked having stomach and lung cancer to scam local business and individuals out of donations of cold, hard cash.

Leeder is currently in police custody pending a bail hearing. The local police in Timmins believe there could be additional victims of fraud in this second Ontario cancer-related scam.

Are cancer scams Canada's new cancer? Timmins police Sergeant Danny Charest told CTV "we haven't had anything occur like this, as far as I know."

I knew some girls that used to work with me that were sisters. They were the biggest liars you'd ever meet, you knew that within five minutes of talking to either of them. Then their mom got cancer, and the youngest daughter milked that for all it was worth. For a long time we at work really didn't believe her just because she had lied about so many other things. Then she and her sister both left us and their mom died a month later. I still didn't feel all that bad, don't go around lying about 99% of the shit you say and maybe people will believe you when you aren't faking.

That someone would do this is unforgivable and such an abuse of the people they approached.

Rather makes you wonder about their moral compass.

I wish they had to follow from the diagnosis, treatment, recovery, life changes, someone who actually has cancer. Perhaps then they might understand the severity of the deceit.

The majority of people with cancer who are considered terminal only ask for pain management, acceptance and peace.

Sad that anyone would do this for any personal gain.

    That is, in fact sad.

I have family and friends that has died of some sort of terminal cancer. I have a neighbor that was just put in remission but she still has to take a bunch of pills everyday and shes still always hurting..... i get weed and i smoke it with her so she can feel atleast a few hours of less pain..

I don't understand why someone would want to pretend to have cancer for personal benefit... thats taking money from people that need the treatment..
I wish the worse for those people and i hope they suffer.

    That's terrible.

The worst part is that now the people who donated to her "cause" will more than likely become skeptical about donating to someone who actually DOES have cancer, for fear it's just another scam.

    Karma's a bitch.

Do they have a reason why she would need witness protection?

That's horrible Orison. I can't imagine what you guys went through. I hope they realized the error of their ways and don't ever treat someone like that again.

Again, very sorry to hear that.
