    So this book changed my life, I was wondering has anyone else ever read this book? What are your thoughts!?

    Well I was struggling a little the past couple years with depression or feeling anxious around people and caring a lot about other peoples opinions. Anyway the book talks about 4 agreements you can make with your self and it helps you to realize you're the only one that matters basically. The new way of thinking brightened me up like the sun :)

    hmm....you mean that only your opinion of yourself matters, right? not that you're actually literally the only person that matters..because if thats the message of the book, that sounds kinda awful....

    Yes your opinion of yourself only matters to you lol. Like everyone is in their own "dream" and that everyones opinion is the truth because it's their opinion. Don Miguel ruiz is the author. Basically the first agreement is be immpeciable with your word. Like don't say anything negative about yourself period. Use your words for happy good beautiful words. And don't talk bad about other people. There's no good in that. Don't take things personally is the second agreement. No one does something or says something because of you. It's about them. You didn't make them say or do anything. Don't make assumptions is the third. Making assumions gives you the chance to be wrong. Why cause yourself regret if you can prevent it by askng a question to clearly communicate. And lastly, always try your best. And you best will be different every single day. When your sick or tired, it will be different from when you are healthy. And when you try your best, you can't be mad at yourself for not giving 100 percent.

    You know the expression "painfully shy?" that used to be me. I made myself get over it. Not sure what your point is?

    sounds like pretty solid advice.

    I guess my point would be that "getting over it" and in-your-face attitudes aren't characteristics of social anxiety disorders.

    i dont have an in your face attitude. I wasn't getting an attitude with the OP, I was just making sure I understood her correctly. I wasn't sure if she was saying the book's message is to become completely self centered or to just stop worrying about others' opinions.

    plus this is the internet. i dont think any attitude on the internet is characteristic of the way a person acts in real life.

    And yes I have gotten over a social anxiety disorder and a general anxiety disorder on my own, without the help of drugs or anything else. There is a difference between a mental disorder and a mental illness. Things like OCD, manic depression, schitzophrenia, etc can be managed, not neccessarily cured. Mental disorders, on the other hand, I strongly believe can be conquered mentally. The mind can be a very powerful tool. so yes, i certainly did "get over" my social anxiety.

    i'm still not sure of your point....i just wanted to make sure i understood the OP :)

    Sounds like a barbershop quartet from the fifties.

    Or a treaty that prevented a war back in the late 1800's
