Do you love vegetables? Do you find veggies more interesting, not to mention healthier than meat? Do you make veggies the center of your meal? Then you are a vegivore!

It's a new craze that apparently has taken New York by storm. Even the big chefs are getting into the act. It's not necessarily of interest vegans and vegetarians, as dairy and meat products are not excluded from recipes, but the main focus is fresh vegetables, in season. It's not even healthy in some cases because they're adding fats and deep frying too.

Yet this can only be a good thing as it emphasizes fresh vegetables, with wonderful flavors that can only entice more people to eat their veggies every day.

Then you should check out this fad further because they're trying to make veggies appeal to everyone.

And I can tell you that fresh veggies cooked beguilingly well can woo anyone into liking veggies.

If you've ever had French food, or gourmet vegetarian food, you know what I'm talking about.

Most Americans haven't a clue what to do with veggies other than boiling (which is usually the worst thing to do).

I'm not sure what recipe you used for "Tofu Soup" but the original Tofu Soup is called Miso soup and it's delicious when prepared properly - you can get it in any Japanese restaurant or Sushi Bar. In fact it usually comes as part of the meal or can be ordered separately.

You not only get a very healthy soup, but the Miso is excellent for a lot of things....

I got it at the Mongolian grill last winter. It was one of the sides I could choose so I decided to try it...I actually spit it back in the bowl and handed right back to the waitress...

The mongolian grill is not a japanese restaurant. Sorry you were disappointed.

It does take some getting used to as it's not a western flavor.

In case you don't know, miso is the by product of the soy sauce (tamari) making process.

It's all the stuff left in the bottom of the barrel after the tamari is removed. Sorta like vegemite, but way better tasting!

I'm guessing the mongolian grill ain't the best place to try it.

skip, snowtigger lives in north dakota

i've had similar experiences with asian restaurants in "west dakota"

the natives like meat and potatoes

"mongolian grills" are always a bit of a sham, imho

mongolians, for what it's worth, don't eat a hell of a lot of veg either

in real japanese food though, the veg can be plentiful and varied

a favorite of mine is simmered carrots and shiitake in soy sauce and mirin

or stir-fried napa cabbage with garlic, chiles, rice vinegar, soy sauce

and don't get me started on japanese pickles . . .

    LOL! That explains a lot....

The absolute WORSE Thai food I ever had was in a small town in Wyoming.

There were REAL Thai people working it in. The store was in a tiny "mall" of like 10 shops and it was empty. We ordered a few of our "favorites", but what we were served was NOTHING like Thai food.

Evidently it was nearly impossible for them to get the real ingredients where they were, so instead they substituted what few things were available and the result was horrible!

I have completely erased that meal from my memory banks so don't even ask what I ate!
