Well, I have lupus. I'm pretty recently diagnosed.. Found out I had it for sure within the last month.. One of the most important things I can do to manage my symptoms and keep myself healthy (well, as possible..) is to change my diet. I'm not really much into eating meat to begin with. I've thought about being a vegetarian before. So.. I'm not too upset with the idea. Apparently going vegan is the most helpful thing someone with lupus can do... but well, I'm allergic to soy and I'm going through a lot of changes and right now I think the easiest thing to do would cut out all meat first.. become a vegetarian and then go on from there. So far, so good.
It's okay if you're allergic to soy. I don't like to consume soy very often, mostly because its nearly alwayss in a processed form. and I just think of clear cutting the rainforest, so thats not good. yes, consuming only plant foods is the healthiest thing for you. I get most of my protein from whole grains, not soy. yon get enough protein and you will be much healthier if you just eat plant foods.
sad to hear that you have a lupus. But I admire your for your fighting spirit. You can avoid soy if you go vegetarian. JUst keep healthy foods and i'm hoping you can be healed through that.
It's never Lupus... Sorry, I couldn't resist. Bummer, though. Small steps are much easier to maintain than big ones. Go for a few months at a time, it'll be easier.
Healing thoughts your way. Chronic conditions suck. I'd think that with any autoimmune disease, you want to avoid any food that creates inflammation. Likely a consultation with a nutritionist or alternative/coplimentary therapist would be covered under insurance, and if not, you are looking at a couple hundred bucks, max. Perhaps check out (at that libary) Perscription for Healing. It's a big, detailed book that while not 100 percent, is a decent reference for food properties. (again, read this then chat with a nutritionist.) I'm split on actually buying the book, but probably will. Again, sorry you have to walk that road.
