Defeating Kadian Time Release Technology

SWIM has obtained some 60mg Kadian capsules. He needs them for legitimate chronic pain but does not have anything for breakthrough pain. So, he conscripted my help in cracking the secret to their maximum potential. I figured I'd key the internet in to my discovery for the benefit of any curious opiophiles out there.

In case you're not aware, Kadian is an extended-release formulation of morphine and comes in capsules filled with tiny white spheres. These are polymer and wax mostly, their structure is described here: http://images.medscape.com/images/542/574/art-aop542574.fig2.gif.

Even if you crush these balls you're still only releasing the matrix material inside, which contains morphine in tiny pores and must basically melt to release its goodies. This will not work for insufflation; at least, it won't deliver morphine immediately, and it will only marginally improve the onset of oral administration. I came across this news story (http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUSCOL06496120080430) which briefly describes how the spheres work. The outside shell and the inside material are soluble at different pH levels. The skin of the sphere will melt away at stomach acid pH, while the insides will dissolve in the much higher pH (slightly basic) of the small intestine.

So, I dreamt up a method for him to simulate the digestive process before ingestion, ideally unlocking all the morphine from its waxy tomb. The process is described below:

1. open the outside capsule and remove the tiny beads
2. crush the beads using favorite method of crushing pills. I find that a $6 walgreens tablet crusher works fine to open them up and is easy to operate - nothing will be spilt.
3. ready a clean shot glass and add crushed beads, skins and all
4. fill 1/3 full with lemon juice (pH b/w 2 and 3)
5. let the beads soak for 10 minutes with regular stirring
6. add about 1 tsp of baking soda or crushed antacids (pH of ~8) and a bit of water
7. let soak for another 10 minutes while continuing stirring

voila! the remaining fluid will have sapped most of the morphine from out of the wax/polymer matrix. You could add some more lemon juice and water to rebalance the pH and then take it, and probably wash out any powder/slush left in the glass with water and swallow that, too. I would NOT recommend injecting this fluid in any manner. SWIM says this method gets him to peak within 20 minutes, whereas taking the whole pill keeps him at a low level for 24 hours. enjoi

 

i use kadian everyday, but i shoot it. i just crush up the beads,then put it all in a spoon, add the cotton, and take it from there. before i started shooting it, i just crushed up the beads, and ate the whole damn thing. it hit me hard within 20 minutes

 

Just a question on the method of the use of lemon juice. Swim have also read that taking tagament (cimitidine) 3 tabs of 200mg each will help in slowing how the body metabolises the morphine. Question is, will the cimitidine interfere with the lemon juice extraction process? Thanks.
