I love this album! Listened to it at my friends house while we were pretty stoned. I wish i owned it tho!

I'm thinking about going out and buying piper at the gates of dawn or dark side of the moon and listening to them while i trip on lsd this weekend.

But the question is..which one do i buy? haha. If i had the $$$..i would buy both!

Dark side of the moon. As much as I enjoy piper at the gates of dawn it doesn't have anywhere near the replay value of dark side.

    Thanks man!

I been listening to the dark side of the moon a lot via youtube and it sounds amazing. Though, Piper at the gates of dawn always gets me..so it's a tough decision. Surprisingly, this weekend is going to be my first time listening to floyd WHILE tripping

I guess it comes down to which one will I really connect to and enjoy while tripping hard. but i'm sure everyone pink floyd song is capable of this haha.

It also seems like 'The Wall' is a pretty good album too. Hmmm....

my friend recently got a free piper at the gates of dawn original album from his uncle, its worth like 300$ but he doesn't want to sell it and I don't blame him. Sounds amazing

You gotta listen to Dark Side as 1 (or 2 pieces really) of music. Youtube can't really do it justice. I got the sacd (super audio quality) and its unbelievable, that album doesn't sound dated at all really and I personally think if I was to choose 1 album to represent the 20th century that would be it.

I even go through periods where I like other albums: The Wall, wish you were here, Animals, piper, obscured by clouds and even division bell more in a sense but dark side created this tone and atmosphere that just puts me on the verge of tears sometimes.

yeah youtube quality really does suck. It's nothing like owning the actual album, which is why i plan on going on and buying it.

I've always liked pink floyd, but really only started getting deep into their music recently. I was just using youtube as a way to check out some of their songs. But your definitely right..youtube will not do me justice haha.

Hopefully i find some time tomorrow to search some stores for pink floyd cds.

Whatever you decide on should be cool but I highly reccommend against Echoes:The Best of Pink Floyd which is their greatest hits. It just doesn't work, they try to segue (join together) songs like Floyd does on Dark Side, The Wall and a few other albums and the choices they pick for the most part don't flow together at all. They have some songs from completely different eras following one another and some questionable songs included as well as a few key tracks missing.

I would get Piper at the Gates of Dawn, the 3-disc version. The third disc has the non-album singles like Arnold Layne and See Emily Play, other songs, as well as amazing alternate takes. And the packaging is awesome, too.

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and A Saucerful of Secrets is considered psychedelic rock. Afterwards, they started moving towards progressive.

From their progressive rock era, you should also check out Meddle. It's the one with the underwater ear as the album cover. That's the one with the song Echoes.
