Can anyone think of and instance where the United States has successfully ousted a ruler, occupied a country, and subsequently built a self sufficient democracy where we are not currently maintaining an occupation? This also includes occupations/conflicts to stop communism. Korea, Vietnam... [other than just rebuilding what was destroyed...ie post WWII Japan and Germany]
South Korea has the world's 13th largest economy so they're doing pretty well. But aside from that the only other places we've invaded are Iraq, Afghanistan, Panama and Grenada. 1 of those is a mess 1 is pretty decent 2 are alright
I remember when America invaded Haiti to overthrow Raul Cedras and allow Jean Bertrad Aristede to claim his mandate and become President. I do not think that Raul Cedras had and nuclear weapons. The Haitian invasion preceeded Iraq by about a year. Those who sponsored our Haitian adventure seemed to escape any scrunity for invading a nation that posed no threat to anyone. Perhaps if questions had been asked at that time Iraq would not have happened. Instead our media and congress circled the wagons in favor of ousting Raul Cedras.
