    It's a logic problem.

    1) If a nation can deny the right of due process, torture , violate international human rights agreements that they signed and de-humanize one group of humanbeings.

Then what's to stop them from doing it to a different group of humanbeings? Perhaps even you. If they did it once before, they'll do it. And they'll do it as they see fit.

    2) And if a nation is willing to use rendition, construct a giant offshore prison and devote millions of dollars and resources to to its maintanance.

Then what's to stop them from creating a few websites to monitor the communications and interactions of people on the Internet ? (I'm certain it's a lot cheaper and easier than secret airplanes and clandestin agreements with foriegn gouverments.)

    In closing,

A large portion of the work that the NSA (National Security Agency) does is signal analysis and communciation interaction. It does not matter if they are directly the reason or not for the creation of Facebook/Twitter/etc. They are profiting from it.

I'm sure they have your profile download into their systems and I'm certain they will leave you alone as long as you just occupy your days shopping and watching TV with a beer sitting on your testicles. But the moment you get sober and you want some real freedoms. They will put a bullet in your head and if need be, they will frame your own child for your murder.

Learn this and learn this well.
You and I are just meat.

Calling Sheep-ople "retards" is only insulting the mentally handicapped. The mentally handicapped have an excuse and for the most part are willing to listen in order to learn from others and their own mistakes. Wheras sheep-ople are in a constant state of denile, worst than any alcoholic.

You just have to look what happened after the logical and un-disputable comments I made on the nature of gouvernments, etc.

They came back with stupid jokes. (IE: "oh my god, that made sense. Quick tell a joke so that we can go back to watching TV and playing make believe. )

    Furthermore notice how no one else wanted to touch this issue again until you posted. I suppose that now we will have to deal with sheep-ople hurt feelings and their childish fantasies about being in some way intelligent;

    What the government already knows
    1. Where you work, your address, and your income though tax records
    2. Your current look, eye color, and height by your license/ID and what type of car you drive
    3. Your parents through your birth certificate

What can easily be obtained through a simple warrant and/or police search vs using the NSA to spy on 500 million facebooks.
    1. Your phone calls
    2. Usage of your credit cards and bank accounts
    3. All of your interests including what you eat by a search warrant of your house

So really, tell me again how the government is using the resources of the NSA, CIA and ect to spy on 500 million facebooks when they already know more/can easily know in a perfectly legal way than they could ever learn off of facebook.

    Tell me why they wouldn't.

The NSA , CIA, Military , etc.

They are like any other gouverment facility. They have to justify their existance, spend all the money in their bugets and produce results. Otherwise they get cut.

Gouverments, in particular the American gouverment spend millions and even billions of dollars on mega crazy projects.
Here are some examples of past projets.
    • Going to the moon to look for water
    • Robots on mars
    • doing LSD experiments on the general public
    • sending the CIA into Chile to recreate a nation they want
    • The stargate project
    • Infecting unsuspecting human subjects with cancer cells
    • Agent Orange
    • Project Paper clip
    • The atomic bomb

You can google a million examples for yourself.

Facebook is essentially a database of 500 million people that supplied information about what their hobbies are, favourite foods, political opinions, etc. Basicaly all their likes and dislikes and who their family and close friends are.

    So you tell me...

Is any gouvernment security or enforcement agency going to let that kind of database go to waste? Especially considering the things that many of these agencies have already done not only to others but also against their own citizens ?

Wake up and smell the coffee.

Facebook makes most of their money from selling your personal information and not advertising. (It's in their terms and conditions. ) Internet advertising is pure shit. If Facebook was making money from advertising as they claim, your computer would be a non-stop infomercial from the moment you logged into their site.

5 pages and you've yet to explain what they're getting out of watching facebook. No one is denying the government watches the internet, but you've made facebook and other social networking sites that de facto pinnacle of all government observations completely ignoring the fact most people have nothing on their facebooks that is of any interest to anyone, and data that actually is of interest is already easily obtainable by the government.

Also, there's 210 countries in the world, 7 billion people, a rising both military and cyber threat from China, domestic nutjobs, and thousands of people around the world who's wet dream is attacking the United States. Despite what you wanna go to sleep beliving tonight, the government isn't some monolithic organic being, it's people, millions of people if all levels of government are put together. In your mind though you actually believe the some odd thousands of people who are actually employed in information gathering have the amazing ability to look at every facebook(all 500 million of them), myspace, twitter, eharmony, whatever it be, all at once. It doesn't matter if there was a super computer that could store all this data at once, it still takes actual people to investigate it, there's actual dangerous stuff going on around the world despite how comfortable we all are in our homes on hipforums, resources are better spent preventing cyber attacks from China than reading every paranoid rambling on the web. This is how hundreds of people on hipforums can constantly talk about doing illegal things, planning up coming drug runs, take pictures of thousands of dollars worth of drugs, all while promoting communism and not have the DEA or FBI show up at their door.

    *edit*
Now I actually read your post and you somehow equate money means the government was able to fund the Manhattan project, and build rockets to go to the moon = Government is spying on this page right now. [IMG]

    • Going to the moon to look for water Space exploration is good and not a secret
    • Robots on mars Space exploration is good and not a secret
    • doing LSD experiments on the general public Spiking people with LSD is rather easy
    • sending the CIA into Chile to recreate a nation they want Funding a coup is also pretty easily and requires few physical resources aside from money and guns on our part
    • The stargate project Having some hired people investigate the possibility of psychic phenoma is pretty easy, in fact it's so easy amateurs do it themselves on the cheap all the time. In fact ScyFy has numerous shows on it,
    • Infecting unsuspecting human subjects with cancer cells Terrible, but again, putting a syringe into the arms of people at a mental hospital isn't hard.
    • Agent Orange Terrible weapon used in Vietnam, created by normal chemist at DOW chemicals, what is your point?
    • Project Paper clip Taking German scientists out of Germany before the Soviets did, not very hard to get a few planes in the air.
    • The atomic bomb Decades of physics work needed to be done before the concept was even available. The physics behind the atomic bomb are actually quite simple once figured out, the government didn't come up with it, they just provided the resources to put the theory into physical actuality. Hell they were so certain that the gun design would work they didn't even bother testing it before using it.

July 2010 had over 500 million "active"(defined as someone who's visited the site at least once in the month) worldwide members.

Also facebook is estimated to take in about $1.1 billion in revenue by the end of this year.

You aren't letting this prevent you from posting on hipforums. What you are posting would probably be labeled revolutionary by the government, yet you are still posting. Why should facebook be treated any different? ANYTHING you do on the internet is probably monitered and logged. its not specific to social networking sites.

    1) I always surf using a proxy (No proxy detection in place here)
    2) I'm not required to give my real information. (Mark is not my real name)
    3) I'm not posting my photos.

They can track you, proxys are worthless vs the NSA.

But here is not the point, it's the entire internet, I mean they're either watching or they're not, and even if they aren't, get a search warrant for your computer, police have good computer techs. Anywhere you've been or anything you've had on your computer they can find.

It's your privacy or lack thereof.
Protecting your personal privacy is a responsibilty like any other. As is being logical and taking a critical look at the world you live in.

In the end, you either take your responsiblities seriously or you don't.

I protect my privacy by not posting pictures of acid I've had on facebook. But then again I'm more concerned with possible employers seeing it than the government.
