Its not that I have $3 million, but I was thinking if I hit lottery or something, I would like to try to help people the best I can.

Just out of quriosity, I would like to hear your ideas, if you had $3 million, how would you invest it so as many people can beneffit as its possible.

Opening some cherity organisation does not sound like a bad idea, you invest those $3 Million in to some product that you can sell in the name of charity (t-shirts, kaps...), for sallaries for people working in the organisation, promotions and so on. But then, what type of product should be good, and finaly, how do you decide what group of people to help? Do you just decide to sponsor some organisation fighting agains cancer, or you sponsor kids without parents, or is there something else that can cover more than one organisation? Do you decide to sponsor somebody to research pshychedelic drugs so they can evolve in some kind of medicine for mentaly ill patients or any other kind of illnes?

Those thoughts are bouncing in my head for a long time, so I decided to post here and see what you guys think. I know that most of you guys here are all about love, peace and helping people, so thats why I posted here. And another reason for postingt here is because I feel like doing something like this after every LSD trip, I feel like I am not doing enough to help those in need. Its all nice to channel your consciousnes toward peace and love, and to feel that this world is changing for better, but I really feel need to do something concrete, something that all those in need can benefit, not only "spirtual" people and "psychonauts", I feel need to do something that can be seen and touched (if you know what I mean).

    Thoughts?

    Peace and love!!!

buy a farm and start a commune where you can create a community. imo that's the best way to help humanity.

One of the unpleasant things about charities is they are not what they appear to be, not even the older established ones. They are extremely self serving entities, who can declare themselves a legal charity provided they certify a certain (small) percentage of their take actually goes to a needy cause. The rest can legally remain with the organization and it's owners for "operating costs", and this is a majority of the income they take in. Charities take advantage of good hearted people in terms of both volunteers and contributors. 100 % the truth, corporate officers for charities pull down at least 6 figures plus corporate cars and other luxury perks, and these parasites hide behind "the starving children of Africa" or the like pr and advertising images for their brand. Personally , a think tank founded to fundamentally change the way people think live and operate economically, socially, and culturally, not to mention communally, I feel has the potential to change things fundamentally to treat the disease and not just the symptoms. This world society and system is broken, outdated, and insufficient to both the present and the potentials currently in hand for the world. A commune is perhaps simplistic but helps discover or rediscover a balanced and working system to replace on a larger scale, the inadequacies and inequities of the unbalanced present.

Ahh, but the link I posted was to an agency that I worked at from 1990 to 2000 and has documented year after year not only a 501(c)3 status but a tiny percentage of budget outlay for administration. People went broke and/or went into deep debt working there. Ph.D. therapists used to start at $12.79/hour - people who could easily have charged $75-$150 in private practice.

I know it intimately and have kept in touch. I donate what little I can when I can. I truly believe it would be a worthy charity to donate frivolous lottery (or other) income too. I've put my money where my text is in the past when I had some, LOL.

I know that there are some charity organisations which are legit, but as Antient one stated, plenty of them are actualy milking good people and keeping most of the donations for them self.
I was thinking more of creating a new charity organisation, investing those $3M in to it, and to try to make business with it, so you can keep helping people for a long time.
If you just donate, you did it and thats it, I was looking for an idea how you can set up the organisation so it is constantly making profit which you can use to help people.
That way you can run the business witch will help for decades, not just once. There is definitely many ways how you can invest money so you get back more, and $3M is a serious investment to establish a company. The difference is that all the profit will go to charity instead in to bonus saleries for employed.
Now, when a company like that is set up (doing whatever, it can be even IT company), who do you help? I was thinking more of a centre where everybody can come for help, not just kids, or not just sick, everybody.
The help would be material, but also I would like it to be of any other help needed, like consulting a psych for example, or shelter from abusive husbent. I would also try to register people for donating their organs after their death.

To cut the story short, I would need an idea for setting up the company to maximise the profit, and the plan for covering the most people with help they need.

By the way, thank you very much for your input, and Spicey, I will donate as much as I can to the organisation you specified.

    Peace and Love!!

yeah I would do this. I would start a commune for artists so that struggling artists would be in a position to focus solely on their art and get it out into a broader community. This would be sustainable too. A community of artists could eventually start generating profit which in turn could be used for upkeep on the commune and to give back to society in some way.

I've always entertained the idea of starting a rehabilitation center for the homeless. Homeless shelters give the homeless a place to stay for a few nights, but does little in the way of preparing someone to find a job, procure an apartment, etc. I would like to provide a warm environment for them to live while helping them with childcare, filling out job applications, creating a resume, finding a permanent place to live, entering a rehab program if needed.

I'd suggest a transitional program that starts from a hostel to a farm to a city shelter that teaches skills and helps people get sober/clean then healthy and then gets them training to be employed and self sufficient. The 'student' graduates from each place. They would then give back by helping as they were helped. Like a dynamic circular model. Hire staff throug college work study type programs. Also have a soup kitchen that serves anyone in need lunch and dinner.
