I need help with a Christmas gift and YES I know its not even thanksgiving BUT i have the money now, so I want to buy it before I blow my money. I plan on getting my girlfriend a GOOD camera for her photography. It's just a hobby to her but her camera is slightly outdated. I do believe it cost her around 250$. I plan to spend around $400. I have no clue about cameras so I really need some help here guys. She's great at what she does and knows her cameras so I don't wanna look like a doofus by buying her some shitty camera. So please, could someone help with some links or even idea. I don't want some el cheapo digital camera neither. any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated... thanks :]

I hear good things about the Canon Rebel. There's a pretty good deal on ebay, comes with the camera + lens. You can probably get it cheaper, this one is buy now.

or this one, auction ends in 8 minutes as I type this.

@brudof, thanks so much for that link! definitely interested in that one!

@orison, hahaha, definitely goin to town on the second idea BUT if I got her a gift card she would NEVER get something... money and so forth is something she'll refuse but if its already bought then kablam!! thanks for the idea tho :p

She hates gifts but she did agree to letting me get her at least one gift for christmas so that it would cover both that and her birthday which i'm fine with that! I know when she sees a gift like this she's going to flip out in a GRRRREAT way. I'm siked.

I think I'm going to shoot for the Rebel XS as said before, after reading reviews on it and others such as the XSi, I have decided that the XS is what is suitable. It's not much more and its quite the bang for the buck. But thanks :D

Well- while I'm not a pro I am quite happy with my camera... the Canon Rebel seems a decent choice though. :)

    Good luck.

haha, that's exactly why I don't own a damn camera. I'll stick to my iPhone! She's the brains of our relationship so I'm sure anything will work out well with her :p or at least I hope so, spending 500$ on something she cant figure out would kinda upset me.... haha

I've had it for a couple years... took my latest lightning pictures with it.... and other things... I love the camera. Insane optical zoom and decent image quality- plus a manual setting where I can honestly fuck up pictures and not be disconnected from the process via "user friendly" presets.

I see.. Hmm, it is 10MP right?

Maybe I'll have to look more into it. saving 100$ would be nice, but i only got one shot at a gift this year so I wanna make it worth it!!

    No problem...

The money saved could more than purchase a decent tripod, memory card, and batteries. :)

One thing to consider- this camera can be battery hungry and my only bitch is where the tripod mounting screw is in relation to the battery compartment. The non-disposable lithiums are excellent in terms of useful life- MUCH less changing-dead ones out which is a pain in the ass if the tripod is frequently used.

They do cost quite a bit more but worth it IMO.

yeah i had one of these...kodak is good for nothing but film. The camera wasn't terrible, but the software certainly was and that was enough to make using the camera a waste of time.
