Anybody know of any war movies that show some of the lesser known conflicts, ones that show both sides? I'm thinking along the lines of: Shooting Dogs Battle for Haditha That sort of thing?
letters from iwo jima and flags of our fathers was well done. Patton ^^^enemy at the gates^^^^ we were soldiers those of course show WWII and Vietnam...as for current battles, I actually like a tv show called sleeper cell about an African American Muslim who is an FBI agent and "enters" an extremist terrorist group in order to undermine it. I don't know if this helps
We Were Soldiers is a personal fav. of mine....... Platoon is pretty good........don't know if this helps or not but im also looking for some GOOD war movies at the moment aswell.
We Were Soldiers is a great movie. Even better though may be Black Hawk Down. This is about a much lesser known conflict in Somalia, and it is very intense and graphic, but a very well told story as well.
the oldest documentery films on war would be films made during the spanish-american war 110 years ago.movie cameramen were in cuba to shoot film of the troops......also there were recreations of events made in the u.s..........you can view the films by typing in spanish-american war in films.if vintage military film is what you are looking for it's quite interesting to see.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363163/ Downfall... I watched it in german w/ english subtitles... Its an amazing movie about Hitlers life.... Not really about war itself, but hitler. It is still great to see what people went through and the struggles an average joe have to do or deal with. It is depressing. Ill watch this movie again and all over again. It is a true story based on a female who worked for Hitler from the start to the end of his death. Truely amazing.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074695/ Cross of Iron always intrigued me,,, James Coburn playing a highly decorated German soldier who prides himself on being a damn good soldier despite his despising the Nazi party at heart, but as the war drags on the futility and utter madness of Hitlers Master plan take their toll on him. Might not be the closest description, haven't seen the movie for a number of years but it really left a strong impression on me as a kid when I saw it. Great piece of work.
KURSK about the big tank battle in 1943, russian movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wjj5TlIFsQs"]YouTube - Kursk Tank Battle in USSR Movie
Im not a big fan of war movies. unless their really good and advised to watch them. So ive missed most of the ones mentioned. Some that I really like arent really modern warfare. But; the Patriot, Red Dawn, Braveheart, The last samurai. And the first and last first blood/Rambo were great. Most of those have aspects of guerrilla warfare so that could be the reason for my interest. And for modern war, The green zone was pretty good. definatly showed two sides of one of the many global wars
Shit I just remembered this was under the documenteries section. But i was just going along with previous posts.. Dont really know any war docs. For war images maybe check out zeitgeist. END:CIV is currently my favourite documentry!
