There's a History Channel piece on "The Brain" right now (I imagine it runs pretty much nationwide, but I live in Seattle) that has some fascinating information about sex among humans. One item, in particular, noted that a woman's brain virtually shuts down during the orgasmic cycle, while a man's doesn't entirely. The theory, from an evolutionary/survival of the fittest standpoint, is that back when mankind lived under a tree and had sex in a pasture, we were essentially prey for various lions and tigers, so at least one of the two needed to stay alert. It probably promoted the doggie style coitus, which is the least intimate but the easiest to achieve. That female brain shutdown is consistent with my own experiences. Men usually have the wherewithal to tell their partner that a climax is near, but the women I've been with arch their back, turn their head away (as if to physically leave the act, so to speak), and pretty much yelp and scream. Somehow, they always seem to forget to say something, even though I'd like to know. I have learned, however, to recognize the signals. Anyway, there have been many times when having sex with kids or guests in the next room was almost out of the question, because my partner simply couldn't control herself. As a man, my question as always been "why the hell not?" but if the brain is essentially closed for business, I understand. It seems to me there's a flip side to this; a reverse cause-and-effect. A woman who can't let go of the thought process probably can't achieve an orgasm. Seems very likely. Stupid Sex, I used to call it. Don't think, Sweetie, just lie back and enjoy it. Just fuck. Take a look at the show and let us know what you think.
