FUCK in my rush to complain about them, i spelt 'Unhygienic' incorrectly in the title of this thread. Sorry! I wish there was a way to change that... Ok, so i am in University currently and share a large-multi room suite with 5 other people. I suppose that it is almost like a small apartment within one of the student housing buildings here on campus. I share my bedroom with two other guys. We have basically split into our own corners of the room..... All of my roommates are really good people, they are kind (for the most part) and are also willing to have a good laugh with me from time to time. We dont really share many similar interests but thats not really the issue. All 4 of them leave there shit everywhere. It is disgusting. They just throw all their dirty laundry on the floor, never wash any dishes, clean out shaving residue from the sink, clean the bathroom, or put anything away. I am the one to do almost all of the cleaning throughout all of our rooms. They leave used pizza boxes out for SO long and never take the to the back of the building to the dumpster...its terrible. So today as of a few minutes ago when i was browsing the forums, i looked over from my desk and noticed one of my roommates, yet again, rubbing one of his feet really hard against the carpet in our bedroom....I think that he has some kind of foot fungus or something which is causing him to have itchy feet and he takes off his sock and fucking rubs it all over the carpet! ahhhhhhh. Also, one of my roommates is on a sports team at my university and he comes back from practice every night, really sweaty and smelly, and just dicks around then goes to bed. Doesnt shower or anything. Ah. Im not sure if it is just me been neurotic and my OCD (yes i actually do have mild obsessive compulsive disorder as diagnosed by a psychiatrist, and am not making a joke) is making me think way more of this whole thing than it is but it is REALLY starting to get to me. I have brought hygiene issues up a few times to all of my roommates, and they dont seem to listen at all and continuously promise to clean up. I even made a schedule of who will clean the bathroom. I said, one person does it once a week, then another the next, etc. I started off the first week. The second week no one bothered to do ANYTHING even after i reminded them. At the moment i buy cleaning supplies for the whole suite (which sucks with my current monetary situation) and as i said do the vast majority of cleaning. I really dont know anymore how to approach them all about this issue. I mean obviously i cant be like "yo, you guys are dirty motherfuckers and need to clean up" because it is more than likely that they would take offense to that....but ive tried been nice and tactful with them. Anyone have any ideas? ahhhhh. How do i go about asking them to be more hygienic?
the titles can be edited but you have to edit in advanced mode and you only have a minute or two to do it
welcome to living with other people. that is just the way world is... people have different ideals of what "hygiene" is. you see them as a bunch of lazy drag ass slobs. i'm sure they see you as being a anal retentive hygiene nazi. if you all cannot find a way to live together... well, that may get quite ugly down the road.
You're a guy, not a chick, so yes, you can ABSOLUTELY say, "Yo, you guys are dirty motherfuckers and need to clean up." If you keep cleaning up after them, they'll keep taking advantage of the situation. You're not their mother. Let me tell a story. Two of my favourite words in the English language that go very well together are, "Fuck it". I've learned to be a pretty laid back guy, but I also live with roommates. So the left side of the kitchen counter is MINE. They can do whatever the hell they want on their side but if I see their stuff on my side, I move it. In the living room, the love seat is MINE. In the dining room, half of the dining table is MINE. I'm sure you're starting to get the drift. Enjoy the wallow in filth until you get a chance to move out. Plus, I'm not sure if I'm also afflicted with the official condition but I am also obsessive about thing like counting the zippers on my backpack over and over to make sure they're all closed or having exactly a certain number of specific items in each pocket every time I leave the apartment. I don't know if I should see a shrink but like I said, "Fuck it."
a warning sign and a video camera.. its all you need.. /beware pigs, thou shall ruin your life on facedork\ /clean up after yourselves\
Shit I have bad foot fungus, I'm trying to treat it so much it's failed. That is the second thing that popped out at me. The first Yeah I have a problem with people who don't pick up after themselves. Personally I think it is indicative that the majority of folk have not mind about themselves. I understand the OCDness but I am not completly OC because I try really hard not to get into thought loops. I had a particularly bad period once. Also am I mistaken and you are a girl? No nevermind your story tells otherwise, but then take a stance, you are allowed to get visibly pissed off/bothered, don't be worried about seeming like an asshole. No I wouldn't call them dirty ass mother fuckers, but I'd still curse and set them straight, and maybe they wont even care and do jack shit. I've gotten straight pissed with all my good friends at the one main summer music festival we go to, I even wrote about my anger in a trip report for the whole time, and it was a major bother, but it was also a festival condition of my friends being so careless they don't want to do anything, except do things that create trash. I swear all of them mother fucking stoners were constantly cooking fucking meat on the grill, and trash was always being created and never picked up. I acted like I was angry that I was the one had to be cleaning up the campsite of ALL our trash, but really I was just angry/bothered/annoyed at the whole ignorant (as fuck InMyVw) mindset. A group of my friends and a bunch of other stoner friends would always hang out on trails at a small park in our town, and litter everything. We even knew and talked to the trail committee old lady when she came down, and I wonder how stupid she really was to talk to us about the litter problem right where we were standing like we weren't the ones to be doing it. Then infact I wasn't upset at all about it, but still I myself did not litter, and infact all my close friends that became part of that group of stoners never littered, that's why we always hated to bring down boxes of food down there, or play games of passing off the trash to the next person to hold it. But it was probably because we weren't skater rough stoner type but just regular suburban white kids. Either way I yelled at my whole group at the Festival, no one gave a shit, and yea didn't do shit. All I got out of it was people just seeing me as the asshole that they sometimes know me for. Just in one of my bad moods again. There was one day where we were all pretty strung out and moody, had shitty arguments. Oh and I also respectfully requested that everyone throw out their trash when they're done with it at the beginning of the fest because of our bad trash situation the year before, everyone even agreed it was too bad. Just goes to show, people don't want to give a fuck. Or something, long rant. P.S. I itch my foot fungus a lot but not on things, ew... But I guess it's nasty if I itch it with my hands... lol p.p.s. I've gotten angry at my dad before for being too clean and obsessive compulsive towards organizations, but I was just thought looping myself.
hey everyone sorry that it took so long to come back to this post. Ok. so yeah thank you everyone for your responses! i appreciate it. Well, i took some of the above advice and a couple days ago, as i looked over at my one roommates desk and noticed that this one KFC soda cup which had been there since october was still on his desk, and i said something along the line of, "guys you really HAVE to start cleaning up. i have been doing it since we moved in here in august and it is getting ridiculous now. i clean 90% of all the shit in our room, the lounge, the bathroom, everywhere. it is time for you guys to step it up or were gonna have a bigger problem than we do already." The response of my roommates was something like this, "Ok man, im sorry it bothers you so much. We have been really busy with school and everything, but we promise we will start cleaning up after ourselves more".......well i think i have got somewhere with them, but i guess only time will really tell. Oh yeah, and so my other two roommates who live in the room the other side of the lounge are 3-4 years older than me and are both seniors here. I spoke to them the same day, and told them that i would really appreciate it if they started been a bit cleaner. They said that they would be. and that was that with them.... Well, i suppose that they will hopefully listen to me in this aspect. I really dont wanna be the only guy out of the 5 of us to do all the cleaning..
That foot fungus thing sounded fucking disgusting. Apart from that though I can't judge. My old apartment used to be riddled with large empty whisky bottles and cigarette packages, not to mention clothes on the floor. Glad to hear they listened to you though. Hopefully they do as they said they would.
