i was raised by hippies and i think being a hippie is being humble and able to forgive and accept people for who they are, and that this and freedom of expression is the core of hippie...however i am surrounded by by angry cold judgmental people who only think hippies smoke weed. i can seem to comprehend why people can be so damn cold. its just so fucking unnatural feeling. people need compassion and i want others to be that way. but when i try to be caring and compassionate, people seam to just become angrier and colder, in fact ive had the shit kicked out of me for trying to be compasinate to outcasts. do i still try or just avoid these people? it just seams weird to me, all of this.

    Shows how little they know.

It's just the way they are. Who knows how and who knows why. Most importantly, who cares?

And I wanna have a billion dollars, too. Somethings in life just ain't gonna happen. Do be so worried about everybody else, only care about tourself. Take care of yourself before you take care of others. And don't try to change people. Only they can change themselves, and then they have to be willing to change.

I don't know about that. I never heard of getting your ass kicked for helping someone. I suppose it could happen.
Just leave them be and do your own thing.
    And learn how to fight.

Leave them alone, let them drown in their own vomit of hatred. It's their lives, let them live them. Go live your own life.

Sounds like you could use some new friends.

Your post kind of reminds me of a key turning point in my life. I played soccer for my high school and mainly hung out with jocks... But I was always accepting of most everyone. I remember walking down the hall with a few of my teammates and I said hello to a few ravers, at the time being a raver was uncool, one was was a very feminine boy with pink hair, glitter, candy, and a kerropi bag. One of my teammates looked over at me and asked, "Why do you talk to them? People are gonna think you are gay." After that I reevaluated who I walked the halls with, and not the way my teammate suggested. If the people around you are putting out negative vibes, then it's time to seek new company.

That, my young friend, is not a new problem. To have empathy and compassion is a weakness to some people. It seems so macho and cool to be above others who are different than you.
As much as possible, avoid these people - as they mature their attitude may very well change. They will see that compassion IS cool. That everyone doesn't have to be just like them to exist.
There are many others just like you. Ignore the the thoughtless as much as possible and leave their attitude in your dust..
Love, be kind, be thoughtful, be compassionate. Such are are the teachings of the truly spiritual. You are among those who walk in step with the creator.

Your heart and your mind will tell you whats right. Life is a learning experience. You will run into all kinds of people in this lifetime. You don't need to explain yourself to anyone. Don't be willing to turn the other cheek. If people think you are weak they will walk all over you. Good luck
