1. How do you get elastics on your dreads? Better yet what are elastics? 2. How do you get thim to stand up and be all wavy at the same time like his? 3.How do I get my thin hair to make dreads like this, and how long do I have to grow them out? 4. What exactly do I tell the person who is doing my hair what I want done so they'll turn out right? Can you get dreads at a salon, if not I know a guy that does them, I just need to know what to tell him. Basically it's a lot of technical talk and if I could get a little more info that's be boss. :sunny:
Yeah I read it just before you posted that. I get it a little bit more, but it just tells you what kinds of dreads their are and what kind of things you can use with them I would still like specifics and/or help of some sort on the technique of getting them to look just like this. Like how you get them wavy and dreaded at the same time, what I should say to the guy doing my dreads, and how elastics work and what they are. Would the best method for this type of dreadlock be backcombing?
If I were you, I would just take the pictures that you posted and show them to your dread guy and tell him, I want dreads like this.
:iagree: Tell him you want the Travis Barker Special, circa 98. He'll know what you mean. Or, you could read the handy FAQ, that all the members in this part of the forum have been putting together for years, take what advice you can from it and go forth. Don't jump of that cliff just yet, young lemming, there may still be hope!:hurray:
you want a hairstyle that looks like dreads. the fine people on this forum will give you solid advice towards growing a set of your own locks that someday other noobs may want to imitate.
Why Thank You For Your'e Kind Words stellarg.... The Members Of This Forum, Are Indeed, An Example Of Humanity In It's Purest Form.... Cheers Glen.
Thank you eace: The only problem I'm having NOW is my dread guy isn't really an 'expert' on dreads, he just knows how to do them, he's a musician and does dreads from time to time to make a little extra money. So I'm guessing I just say I want the backcombing method done after I've cut my hair a little shorter? I imagine it's going to be more difficult and hurt a little bit if I get them done with shorter hair...
I imagine there's ways to find other people who do dreads as well right? If anybody knows how I would go about looking that up, I'd appreciate it. I'm sorry if I'm asking any questions that have already been answered in the FAQ.
Not long at all, as I just got it cut to try and get a job. I'm planning on getting the dreads once it grows out a little bit... About how long would I have to grow it out to get dreads the same length as the ones in the pictures? If I could do it myself or with a friend and still end up with good results that'd be awesome. :sunny:
idk, it depends on your hair type, but maybe 8'' (20 cm). First yo have to know that they won't look like dreads right away, they're going to be all messy and look like frizzy hair the first 6-8 months, they will look like dreads after the first year. You could go trough some of the timelines on the forum to see what I'm talking about.
