Fewer than one in 10 Afghans are aware of the 9/11 attacks and their precipitation of the war in Afghanistan, says a study from an international think tank.

A report (PDF) from the International Council on Security and Development (ICOS) shows that 92 percent of those surveyed had never heard of the coordinated multiple attacks on US soil on September 11, 2001. It also shows that four in 10 Afghans believe the US is on their soil in order to "destroy Islam or occupy Afghanistan."

To be sure, the survey can't claim to be definitive: It only canvassed men, and relied primarily on respondents from Helmand and Kandahar, the two most war-torn provinces in the country. But the results nonetheless show that Western forces fighting insurgents in Afghanistan have largely failed to connect with the local population.

An even more shocking number is that roughly 9 out of 10 Americans believe what the corporate media told them what caused 9/11

I doubt many Afghans have access to too much outside information, and have more pressing issues on their mind.
    Perhaps.
But I do not know how this is connected to not knowing about 9/11.
Plus, it seems, it isn't just "western forces" that are failing to connect to the general population.

I hope we all here know this isn't true.
The Taliban have probably won the propaganda war.

That isn't more shocking. It isn't shocking at all. That's understandable, because, for the most part, the "corporate media" (used in a derogatory tone I imagine) have reflected the truth.

I think this report is either made up or greatly skewed.

it does not matter if they know about 9/11. i have been in heilmand and kandahar province. Afghans are assholes trust me. We just need to wipe that country out, also with the rest of islam. If they truly believed in the teachings of islam they would report the fighters, bomb makers, everyone breaking islamic law. Im tired of this pussified america. man the fuck up.

    ^^ew. mind-boggling...

as for the op, i pretty much believe it. when suicide bombers are brought up, either side of the conspiracy theories can justify their opinion, and same goes for this article.
what we can take from it is that it definitely is not the common man's doing for this war, it is higher elitist groups. but didnt we already know that?

    This is my guess...
But I think the men with the guns and bombs dressed on soldier gived them this opinion.

Next time I gived recommendation to wear flowers in the hair and give ballons to children. This works much good to make friends.
