I'm sure its been posted before, but I don't see it anywhere on this forum so it is my duty to post it again. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is the quintessential drug book and a strangley poetic satire of post hippie America. Another good book by the same author, Hunter S. Thompson, is Hell's Angels: A strange and terrible saga. because THompson ROAD with these mother fuckers for a year and lived as recklessly as they did.
Wicked, I didn't know it was a book. I only knew about the movie. I'm going to try and find it now. I bet it's much crazier as a story. Thanks for posting that!
H.S. Thompson's one insane genius. I love his writings! I have both Fear an' Loathing and Hell's Angels, great reads.
I'll look for them both then. I like to take baths a lot so now I'll have something to do besides watch tv.
you might want to check out another book by Thompson called "The Kingdom of Fear". another excellent read.
my library sucks. they dont have any of his books. and when i went to the store, i could only find the Rum Diary. excellent book though. That will also be made into a movie and Depp will be in it again. i have hells angels and fear and loathing on my reading list for the summer. Gonzo is the shit!
I read this book in about 2 hours at 4 am so I could bring it back to the library on time and when I woke up I didn't remember a thing. :s Lindi
I thought the screen adaptation of Fear And Laothing was the best book to big screen I have ever seen. if you just like all things hunter check out " Where the Buffalo Roam". Has Bill Murrey doing a great job as Hunter. Never read anything else of Hunters...I think I better change that...I am between books currently.....
Great book; but most of the other stuff I've read by him has been notably better. I heard that Hunter S. Thompson was fired from his job at ESPN this week- he compared Bush to Hitler. That brotha so rocks...
hes written a piece for the latest vanity fair, with drawings by ralph steadman included. i saw it the other day at a magazine stand, i gotta remeber to go and pick a copy up. and yes, FLLV is amazing and HST is beyond the genuis status.
i love hunter!!!! all of his books. thou i must admit, f+l is my favioutrite. and the rum diarys! and i hear ole johnny is in the makin of the film.,..oh, i cannot wait i tells ya!
I found the scene where Hunter Thompson attended a law enforcement conference incognito most interesting. I assume he was telling close to the truth what happened (it feels true). The most interesting things were: How bad the sound system setup was, and how much better to Hunter the sounds system setups for many 'hippie' concerts were. Hippies having greater mastery of technology and organization than the law enforcement agencies! How they were able to get away with it. Under the influence of drugs their behavior outwardly must have appeared strange. But I guess sober people act very strange also, and so they blended in well enough! Shows you the reality is very different from what the truth is supposed to be.
Sounds like someone read it too well. I noticed that this thread was hidden way in the back and with the recent passing of Mr. Thompson, I thought it needed a new post. I love Hunter's work, read Hell's Angel (& got it confiscated by my dad) when I was 14; it was my introduction into the great reads of the Aquarian Nation. The dude knew what pushing the limits was all about. rumour alert:some say it was not really suicide.
I was just curious who here has read the book written by Hunter S Thompson, or seen the film? I'm a BIG Hunter fan. He was like a GOD! And I'm still real annoyed about his death. The book and film are both awesome. If you have no idea what I'm talking about I suggest you check it out!! Peace
I very much enjoy the book and movie. Very fun to watch and you catch some thing new everytime you see it. I suggest it. love ryv
