Not all Americans are like that. If they were, this thread wouldn't exist where (guess what? ding ding ding!) a bunch of Americans are pissed off.

County correctional systems detain persons awaiting trial, violators of probation and often persons with untreated mental illness and substance abuse issues. The Association supports justice reinvestment, which is a system where communication about these offenders exists between the local, state and federal levels. Sheriffs and other leading law enforcement bodies charged with protecting the public, and jail administrators Boards of County Commissioners are responsible for approving the Sheriffs budget, which can be more than one third of the county's entire budget. This often includes salaries for law enforcement officers, patrol fleet vehicles, local diversion initiatives and jail operating costs..

Every county has a jail, and there are some counties with multiple facilities. More than half of inmates in jails are awaiting trial, and the majority of pretrial inmates are held for felonies. For the most up to date information on county any detention facilities, visit the Department of Corrections website...

People often use the terms “jail” and “prison” interchangeably, however the two words have different meanings. A jail refers to a county detention facility that generally holds persons awaiting trial, or pretrial detainees, those serving sentences for less than one year, probation violators, those awaiting sentencing, individuals who have been committed under the Baker and Marchman Acts, illegal immigrants and even juveniles. A prison is operated by the Department of Corrections or a contracted entity that detains offenders who have been convicted of felonies and are serving sentences greater than one year..

The rising cost of inmate medical care is a cause for concern. Counties who do not have an agreement with local hospitals are being full fare medical rates for people who would otherwise be considered indigent and paying Medicare or Medicaid rates. Over the past two years, the Legislature limited how much Department of Corrections and the Department of Juvenile Justice could pay medical providers to 110% of Medicaid..

Nearly all of offenders in jails and prisons will return to our communities. This means that whether or not we want to realize it, every county in will be affected by prisoners returning to our neighborhoods. Many offenders are in need of housing, jobs, substance abuse treatment and mental health counseling. Since these resources are often hard to come by, counties must coordinate with our partners at the local, state and national level to ensure that communities are well prepared to deal with offender reentry...

Over the last several decades prisons and jails have become the default holding cells for persons with mental illness. The majority of persons with mental illness who are in jails are there for local ordinance violations or minor misdemeanors. The issue has gained national attention and we are experiencing a shift in criminal justice policy to identify individuals with mental illness, substance abuse or co-occurring disorders as they come in contact with law enforcement. It is more economical to serve these individuals in a community setting, as opposed to keeping them in jail for minor violations..

Crisis Intervention Team training, or CIT, is one process that gives law enforcement the tools on how to improve their interaction with persons who have a mental illness or substance abuse disorder. However, CIT is much more than training; it is a partnership between local law enforcement and substance abuse and mental health providers in the community. This is a great benefit to communities, since many people with mental illness, substance abuse or co-occurring disorders frequently use a large portion of public resources, like jails, hospital emergency rooms, homeless shelters and crisis stabilization units...

Law Enforcement have the autonomy to engage in programs that will help their deputies protect the public. This may be something they've considered... perhaps hoping that the chaos would justify the completion of our transformation into a police state..

And what are you doing about it ? Making tea party on Internet ?

    Yes, Internet..
    Every american must go and blog about this. Perhaps start forum message sections. Perhaps change status on Facebook to angry and send Twitter message;

This problem is fixed by fighting in the street. Not talk on Internet.

For americans the word "Unite" means to join the military and kill all non-americans... While non-military americans sit in their house and choose to cry into american flag for their 10 dead soldliers OR go outside screaming that the 2 million or more non-americans their military murdered deserved it.

If a revolution started in America.
All they would need to do to make it stop is to find a Michel Obama sex tape.

While this is true, the task of inspiring unity won't be simple. We have a political and economic culture that keeps us at odds with one another... too afraid for our jobs to dare stand out and say anything. No one is hiring but businesses are enjoying RECORD profits... not a peep from them populace. A general strike would be nice- hit the power brokers where they'll actually feel it but no- there are enough who are brainwashed into compliance to kill any real effect from those will the balls to stand up for themselves.

And so while some on the outside might choose to mock those who make their opinions heard on this forum- they seem bereft of constructive suggestions as to how we can make ourselves heard. They might suggest rioting- fighting in the street yet that very decision would furnish justification to make common citizens prisoners in their own homes via martial law. Creating a crisis- which our congressional puppets already look upon as an opportunity not to be wasted, is NOT the way to effect change that will benefit us in the slightest.... ideas exchanged via these so-called "internet tea parties" can be used to figure out how best to deal with the situation without furnishing anything for the propaganda mill that is mass media in marginalizing the dissent as extremism or better yet, terrorist in nature.

I will not be reserving much patience for those who can do little beyond sneering at Americans... or any other nationality.

If you stand up, no matter what you do, martial law will happen. If companies arent making money from people boycotting it then they will go to the government and tell them put the people back in order. That is a chance you take. If you want freedom, you must be ready to die for it. I hate to say it but youre not going to overcome a power such as this with just peace, unless you convince the men in the military that they are fighting for the wrong side. Just look back in the past, what did the 13 colonies do?

No arguments here... but the most peaceful method possible would make a martial law response a blatant overreaction.

I agree. but the only way you can assure a peaceful process is by starting with the men in the armed forces. if they have no army then who will they have to fight for them? thats really the only way.

Good thought but penetrating the mind set that has been altered through military brainwashing is going to be a very tough thing to pull off at best.

Exactly, which is why we must be united doing it. If lil jimmy is in the military and finds out his mom and dad dont support it anymore i highly doubt he would fight against his own family.

But the thing is, people are happy not knowing. People dont want to know the truth. People would rather be slaves and give everything they have just to SURVIVE because theyre too scared to fight for freedom. and until something happens that they absolutely have to fight, they wont. I see it in everyday society where people act like everything is just fantastic or believe the lies and the bullshit the tv gives them. i guarantee if i went outside and asked someone who caused 9/11 they would say iraq and that this whole time we have been fighting terrorists in the iraq war.

What really makes me mad, is that slavery still exists today. You work your ass off just to have a house. Just so you have a place to live. Then you give away money to people you dont even know, because of this little thing called "tax". Then you buy food from people you dont know who put chemicals in it that take about 20 years of your life off. but thats all okay right.

And i know somebody will be like "ohhhh but you need taxes!". BULLSHIT. Have it be a free world. Make it so everybody has to give a couple dollars a month or something that goes directly to military funds, or to making your community a better place by helping schools get rebuilt and things of that sort. not right into peoples pockets.

a perfect example of that would be my pap telling me how he fixed roofs for a living back in the day. he said he was supposed to have a whole schools roof rebuilt and have the rails out front all welded in 2 days. so he got done with the rails in 2 days and told his boss he needed more time because the roof wasnt done. but the boss said no its okay and they left, ripping the school off for however much they payed for a new roof. and the school didnt even know, they thought they had a new roof. like he was supposed to put on new metal shingles because it leaked or something. and they didnt. and where do you think the money for that job came from? from the tax payers. right into that construction company's pocket. so just imagine what happens when we go to war and do so called "construction"

Don't underestimate a soldier's willingness to go against his/her family if the entity that has brainwashed them into not questioning the word of their commanding officer can be convinced that the family's active protest is un-American if not a naked act of terrorism

You cite the working hard to get a house and pause to consider the economic mess we're in as well as the role four presidential administrations played in fostering the toxic bubble that was destined to usher in the age of foreclosure when banks (part of the REAL seat of power) confiscates property because the predatory agreement reverted to terms the homeowner couldn't afford. This was why applicants weren't screened- the point was to inflate the market so a very few could make money while many could suffer.

So- at a time when corporations are enjoying record profits while unemployment remains high our "news" keeps us focused on and paranoid of terrorism- and we're subjected to treatment that used to be reserved for criminal suspects- all for the illusion of security. Protesting one small part of the greater scheme furnishes the chance for the criminals in seats of power to placate the masses with incremental steps backward from a peripheral art of distraction to maintain attention away from the main issue of using an economic situation as an opportunity to transfer more to the wealthy- under the guise that a few crumbs might trickle down to the hungry masses who are so concentrating on getting officially fondled for the privilege using mass transit that they miss the fact that they are getting fiscally ass-raped in other areas.

Ok here is what to do.
Leave. Do like what happen in communist Russia. Walk out of the nation into another. Go to Mexico. If you can not fight.. leave. If enough of you leave.. America will have to face issues.

Bref, it is not my job to tell you what to do. It is not my nation.
But americans have ruined this planet. So when americans visit my nation. I do not talk.. I do not give service. I do not take money poisioned with sin of murder. My store has sign that say "no americans served." Sad that I do not get much americans because I own french book shop.
