The more I think about this the more I start to think that the question doesn't make any sense.

The analogy is that if we see a glass half full of water we have a positive outlook, and half empty a negative outlook. But I think that the analogy is flawed...if a glass has water fulfilling half it's volume there isn't nothing in the other half, there's still water...which is just as important. And if the glass is half full with water because half has been drunk, then isn't that a good thing. The water has potential to sustain life, so if half of it has been drunk then isn't it a good thing?

I assume that the question that the analogy implies to be; Do you have an optimistic outlook on events or a pessimistic outlook on events. But in my opinion, wouldn't it be much more helpful to view an event as it has actually happened; without putting our own spin on them?

The glass if half full. Half full of diseases bacteria and death that will soon destroy us all.

Totally agree with your post. Being realistic doesn't mean your not positive.

It isn't half full or half empty.
Its existing in a state of perfect equality.
It is not hot nor cold,
It is not ying nor yang.

It is in a state of neutrality. The awnser is to look at it from this way. Aside from never taking the first drink of course.

I constantly find that it's half empty, yet it's actually half fully.

The glass is half full if you're filling it. If it is half empty, it's because you drank half of it after filling it.

I'll be on my mountain if you have any more questions.

It's half empty because I don't tend to pour only half a drink - but have been known to, well

    drink some of it.

Yeah I, like the other two who said before have seen it that it depends if you're taking away or giving to the glass.

If I saw a glass of water at 50% capacity I would just simply say
"Hey look, it's a half a glass of water!"

Its our choice to decide how we perceive it and what we do with it. We need to be as knowledgeable about it as possible and its context with the rest of the world to allow whatever it is the cup represents to flower to its best potential. Maybe we could use the liquid to sprout some seeds or start a fire. or something, depending on what it is.

It still can depend for an idea of fullness from the standpoint of bodily participation for the use. For instance, if you're pissing it out later; it can be pessimistic for half full as opposed to half empty.:juggle:
