If a girl/woman gets raped and refuses to marry her rapist she is to be stoned. That's how Yahweh rules, yo.
Lot is not our role model. He was a flawed character. We can learn from the bad and the ugly as well as the good. Only God is good.
The author of that article is a muslim who has taken it on himself to bash Christianity and Judaism because of accusations by some that Muhammad, (pbuh) married Aisha, when she was a young child, committing pedophilia. She was young, but not as young as some say and her age was consistent with the customs of his day. The Prophet of Islam was slandered, but so was the Bible. No one wins with these lies and half-truths. The Torah was given to a wicked people with a primitive culture. Some of the laws are misunderstood in a more enlightened age. In those days, a woman who was raped was abandoned by her family and had no prospects of marriage. The Torah did not teach people to shun crime victims. That was the wicked Jewish culture of the time. She would likely die of starvation. Her rapist was forced to marry her because it required him to provide her the means to live as a form of restitution. This was in all likelihood an unhappy marriage, but it kept a crime victim from starving because of the great evil he did to her.
what are u talking about the verses in numbers are very clear... if you consider the bible to be divine truth than your god is a pedophile
I would consider your claim if you could substantiate it, but sparing the lives of captive virgins does not a pedophile make. They would be household servants until they came of age and could be married off to someone. This was a common custom in the middle east. There was a similar case with Esther captive Jewish wife of the King of Persia, and with the servant girl of the Syrian Namaan (II Kings).
Numbers 31: 17-18 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
Lot was a Syrian of Habiru descent, grew up in the city of Haran, many years before the Hebrew sojourn in Egypt and the revelation of the Torah. I agree value system was very different from our day. He was a mix of good and bad. Even Abram, called the friend of God was not perfect, moments when his faith wavered.
the true bible and talmud is alchemical wisdom which spontaneously becomes bibles much later in the inert state, the bible is like a rough material but before hand as it is spoken with living truth, thoughts and impressions, even silence itself, which strikes like lightning and illuminines that numinous divine core, in loving kindness, and compassionate simplicity yet fully imparts the joy of the dharma and its liberating realization, and union with the divine those who argue and mince words are foolish, the heart is the true guide and the source of the radiance of those mentioned spoken truths, the heart which resonates through the beat and central function to the source of all, being and not being, the primal creation destruction process which is within all things complete and yet ever rising and falling again the bible is full of false distinctions in the printed version, which slowly yield to some spiritual understanding taken literally in the way of devotional practice, but great benefit can be gained reading it and transmuting the words into the likeness of the divine name, and infusing them with the spirit of love, wisdom and understanding and compassion for those who later absorb the glyphs of text indwelling in which is the divine spirit itself, rearranged just has jesus was nailed, to suit the manipulations of obscurity, but God is love itself, and flows freely wherever there is honesty of heart and the urge to return we are all children in some sense, especially in terms of spirituality, where paradoxically sometimes children can exhibit the greatest wisdom, and are linked with the elderly but its not cool to harm kids, thats is just not right and can really mess with their mind, its not kind and doing harm to others isn't condoned in the bible
There is a difference between understanding the value system of an alien culture as it existed 4,000 years ago and justifying it for our day. The Jewish legal code, i.e. the Law of Moses, was an improvement upon the code of Hammurabi, which many people still find an improvement over the rule by degree (whatever mood the King was in that day).
Life expectancy back then was like, 20. It's not too weird when you think about it that way. Although it's still pretty iffy.
Interesting. I didn't see anything in these passages about sexual molestation. Do you think God molested those little girls? Interesting this should come from a convert to Islam, considering the Prophet Muhammed's relationship with his child bride Aisha, or the various passages in the Qur'an condoning sex with captive women: Qur’an 4:24—Also (prohibited are) women already married, except those whom your right hands possess . . . Qur’an 23:1-6—The Believers must (eventually) win through—those who humble themselves in their prayers; who avoid vain talk; who are active in deeds of charity; who abstain from sex; except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess—for (in their case) they are free from blame. Qur’an 33:50—O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those whom thy right hand possesses out of the prisoners of war whom Allah has assigned to thee . . . Qur’an 70:22-30—Not so those devoted to Prayer—those who remain steadfast to their prayer; and those in whose wealth is a recognized right for the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); and those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgement; and those who fear the displeasure of their Lord—for their Lord’s displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquility—and those who guard their chastity, except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess—for (then) they are not to be blamed. Do you know the meaning of the word "hypocrisy"?
72 raisins. Delicious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rAxgfwiL3M"]YouTube - ABC's Distortion of Islam Part 1 ("virgins" or "raisins")
yes i agree that the writer of the article is a complete hypocrite but that does not concern me because i personally know a lot more christians than i do muslims. it bothers me that it is never brought up when various priest scandals are in the news. You would have to be impossibly naive to not agree with the obvious intent of the verses.. unless you can offer any other interpretation for NUMBERS 31: 17-18 please dont waste your time responding...
