this sounds like a wonderful idea. i just have to remember how to get out that way. i havnt been to greensboro in a while
sup. its been a while since i posted here but here's and update its been about 17-19 months since i eliminated combing my hair out of my daily routine. i flipped some of them out of the way to better see the texture of the dreeeeeds.
i've been hanging out in Boone NC for a few days now. i went to downtown Asheville yesterday and saw some one with dreadlocks on every block! soo i got inspired to give another update on my dreads.
wow. they're so pretty. it is kind of hard to believe they're neglect... not that i don't believe you, i've just come across a few people with natural dreads who have like, ten of them, random sizes and lengths. yours are just lovely and numerous!
It. Is. Well. Known. That in the end it all looks the same. Unless you crochet a lot or something. You can have congos with any method if you don't rip, the difference is neglect knots much more strongly, it will be much harder to comb out usually. Also, it knots FASTER. Everyone cites a "fall out" stage as just part of the process, and feels the need to say they "might as well" have neglected or whatever, but still seem to think backcomb was right for them or whatever. If the backcombs look like shit, don't DO anything, and have to fall out before your locks can even start, why the FUCK do you put them in? Not a kickstart, but a step backwards.
i'm sorry dude i'll have to disagree... from the neglect dreads i've seen, whether physically in front of me, which has only been like two people, or on the internet, they always come out really gnarly and bumpy, and usually sectioned oddly or however. NOT that they don't look sweet, because they do, neglect dreads have this crazy awesome look to them, but i don't think they come out the same as people who just backcomb, and of course they're different from people who regularly maintain their hair. i could be wrong though.. as far as knotting faster, from everything i've read/discussed with people, they bind up very slowly. the fact that this guy here has such great dreads so fast is amazing to me, that's all i was saying and i don't think i've ever said "i should have gone neglect". i don't have the patience to wait that long, and i'll admit that i certainly do want to maintain a general tidyness with my hair while my dreads are settling, so neglect is not the way for me. but i've always loved them, and they are totally on the top of the pyramid for me. my fall out with my first set was because i was going through a lot of shit at that time, and my dreads carried too much baggage. i had spent a lot of time "fixing" the sections (another reason i could never go neglect) and the magic had worn off for me. this time around i know who i am, why i want them, and everything in life is pretty rad so they're coming in baggage-free and this isn't a slap at you, so please don't get all angry-pants. i'm just sharing my opinion and i completely understand if you or other people see it as wrong, it's just another side of the discussion. all in all though, these ones have a lot of character and are just plain awesome. congrats on your patience man.
