Do you consider Julian Assange of Wikileaks to be a terrorist or a hero?

Both, depending on the position/s of the observer and/or those affected by the disclosures. One side feels the release is fitting and secret deals are wrong and reflect the underhandedness of the government and the other side feels that nation states should be able to keep their secrets and therefore disclosure is a form of terrorism and is traitorous. I don't care ,other than a minor interest in how it will play out.

He IS a hero for all of us really. He has stepped up, not bowed down to authorities to attempt to show the TRUTH behind governments all over the globe. Some of the people in the highest places of power around the world, seem to think that because of their position they are immune to laws..

The government/corporate alliance is the terrorist.

Why do you find it funny? You'll probably get a more honest reflection of what people really thing if the results don't reveal who voted for what option.

although I don't think it's great to release all classified documents ..I have to say that the greater good of uncovering the hidden shit outweighs the harm it might do

so basically I agree with Mr.Scratcho [IMG]

(as a side note I would NOT have voted if the poll was public)

I agree, too, however I believe this may be the one point on which Assange will have a problem. The bulk release of all documents in his possession, with or without editing out names will work against his case.

It's one thing to have a cause or see a problem and try to correct it. But by releasing all the docs, many of which are extremely benign and don't relate to any particular news story, event or controversy, he stepped over a line of relevancy.

To release docs which have NO RELEVANCY to any story, is not journalism. And the fact that some of those docs might hurt someone or a group or even a corporation, cannot be justified, if no good can come of it.

So for me he'd have to justify the release of each and every doc on its own merits. He'd have to show that releasing each doc, rather than the whole package is in the public interest. That each doc is relevant to the topic at hand.

It's like ppl posting up shit in a thread that has nothing to do with it. Why bring it up, if it's irrelevant to the subject at hand?

I do understand that the impact is far greater to have 250,000 docs released over time than say just 250 docs that would have the greatest impact and be the most relevant to the public interest.

So that is my main bone to pick with Assange's methods and his most likely vulnerable legal point, since he claims to be a journalist.

Neither. I actually don't trust his motives at all.

but someone NEEDS to do what he's doing, so I commend him for it.

Which is why I voted for it lol

Edit: No, I voted not sure. But not sure is my choice over neither. What constitutes a hero? What constitutes a terrorist?

I think the addition of neither is just serving to split the vote further. Just keep "Not Sure" up

i voted neither. not because i'm not on board with his activities, but primarily because humans are fallable and putting the label hero on him seems a bit much. heroes are myths, assange is a real man with a real mission. the anons who are supporting him through their mischief are making my heart swell with pride. this country has needed to get back off our high horse for a very long time. we were promised more transparency in government, well...now we've got it. the public needs to see that we've been put through the bullshit trough for too long. the parties are untrustworthy, our government itself has be corrupted nearly to the man.

wasn't that the whole reason the founding fathers had their "checks and balances?" who's left to check and balance? it's the assanges and the anons apparently.

I'm surprised at the vote thus far. I voted 'I don't know', but would have neither had I the chance.

I believe that the volume of documents is part of the controversy and that with out the volume there would have been less fanfare...I am counting on julian to have kept several really damaging documents to leverage his own release.

Actually, the funniest part about all this, is they havent really released anything yet... A small part of 1% so far... lol

Not of course counting the insurance file, which is still encrypted at the moment...

We are in for a LOT more shit then we've seen so far... Either it will go on for years with them releasing them a little at a time, or they will get taken down will release the password...

It sure is going to be one hell of a ride though...

i may be wrong but am lead to believe that it has something to do with man-hours available to him and his staff... they just don't have the manpower to sift through everything before release...

he is a real hero... he knew he would be attacked in some way, but hasn't let that fact stop the process...

hero and terrorist - terrorism isn't always bad

remember when they threw money at the stock exchange?

would add that practically nothing i have seen in the cables has been a surprise to me, nor should it have been a surprise to any well-informed person - so how could it do any harm?
