Jesus fucking christ. I thought it was an agreed upon social custom that when people call in sick they're never actually sick. When people are sick they go to work, who actually wants to be sick on their days off of work. That and maybe the fact the US is the only industrialized nation with no guaranteed vacation time for full time workers is why everyone has to use their "sick" days. http://finance.yahoo.com/career-wor...ay-bounty-hunters?mod=career-worklife_balance
Pretty useless to hire someone to spy on your workers. But I suppose if you don't trust your workers, then you shouldn't be employing anyone.
Couldn't they, instead of paying these private detectives, afford to give decent vacation time and be worry free?
I can divide all of the jobs I've had into two categories - Those that gave me an allowance of sick time, and those that did not. For the ones that did, I was able to build up my sick time through working, and even though it was called "sick time", I was allowed to use it whether I was sick or not, as long as I called in at least 24 hours before hand. However if I didn't have any sick time it was absolutely prohibited to call out for any reason. For the ones that did not, I was of such little consequence that it would not be worth hiring a detective to see if I was actually sick or faking.
Perhaps. But that's not what it is about. It's about them controlling your life, in and out of work. Being able to hold over your head the threat of being fired. Calling sick days used like that "fraud" is a power trip. Just like nowadays - watch what you post on Facebook, because your emplyer might not like it and fire you. If we're good little cogs we'll be fine. Just don't step out of line!
this part is genius.... Ahearn once had a client who issued each of his employees a cellphone with a GPS tracking system. "He thought it was foolproof," Ahearn says. That was until the boss learned one employee had FedExed his phone to a hotel where he was supposed to be staying on a business trip. Instead, the worker opted for an exotic vacation. "It's a duel between bosses and their employees," Ahearn says. "Whoever has better technology usually wins."
We watch the Lumpers get paid then go to the beer distributor, those that dont come in the next day, can pick up their final checks on friday..
