Cindy (4 y/o) cleaned her room today because I told her if Santa saw all her toys all over the floor, he would think she has too many toys, and not bring her any more for Xmas. I tell her the truth about the North Pole thing, though. Since the ice cap has melted, Santa has moved to a secret submarine base beneath the Arctic Ocean.
Exactly! I loved it as a kid. I love it even now. When I found out Santa wasn't real I wasn't upset that I'd been lied to. I was a little sad. It's a wonderful fairytale and I wonder why so many people here wouldn't let their children experience it. If I have kids, they'll believe in Santa. I feel like I'd owe it to them.
What is magical and wonderful about a fat bearded guy in a red suit coming into your house with stuff? I don't get it. The snow is magical and wonderful. The presents and the candy and the Christmas cartoons are magical and wonderful. What about lying to kids about a weird old fat guy is magical and wonderful?
we have a huge mythology around and about santa. lol. we don't have a chimney, santa uses my closet, which is why it's so cold all year. santa brings presents, but so does everyone else in the family. and dave's dad started the tradition of looking for rudolf's red nose flying overhead before bedtime christmas eve. i mean, he has to be magic if he's flying all over and giving presents to all the good kids. we bake the cookies, put out the carrots, make a point of having a bite taken out of the cookie, etc. and i'm not even a christmas person. but the kids sure as hell are.
Santa is real, or at least he was once.. maybe he still is somehow. Saint Nicholas had a reputation for secret gift-giving, such as putting coins in the shoes of those who left them out for him, and thus became the model for Santa Claus. You forgot the part where that is YOUR OPINION. Who are you to decide what is magical and what isn't? Are you the Christmas police? Different people have different traditions. It's funny how many people are willing to get offended on someone else's behalf, without actually knowing (or caring) if those people are ok with it.
intead of a UFO picture with "i want to believe" i want a picture of santa on a sleigh flying through the sky with the same words.
I think it's lovely for little ones to believe in some kind of a magical world before they get older and realize most of it is shit. I never met a person that held a grudge against their parents for going along with the myth. There aren't any. The Grinch can kiss my honkey ass.
My kids know there isnt a santa. They just play along to get the presents. One is 11, one is 7 and the other is 3. I dont wanna ruin it for the 3 year old yet.
^^This. My beef with Christmas ends after Thanksgiving. Before then, I fucking hate it, but when the season is appropriate, I like it, and Santa's part of it, so that's that. Not all traditions are bad. Some are hilariously, infuriatingly fucking stupid, but this one can stay. It's just harmless fun.
I knew he wasnt real, and I dont feel like I missed out on the `magic of christmas`. I dont know what Ill do, but I wouldnt want my kid to be the one that screams and runs away crying when a kid at school tells him there`s no santa clause.
Again, it's not a requirement. I've never heard of that happening anywhere. How old do you think people are when they figure it out? 14? Seriously... Besides, you think that's the only mean thing a kid will say to your kid? I have 2 of them and there's a lot of mean shit said...never was a peep about Santa... Get ready, because kids are meaner than that. My kids are too old for it now, and they survived. It's a miracle! :sunny:
No I would not lie to my kids (if I had any). When I found out Santa wasn't real I was pissed at my mom for a whole year. I think Christmas is bullshit and wish it never existed. It's just another bullshit reason to be materialistic.
exactly. as me and my brothers found out we became the santa's helpers who kept the magic alive for my little brother and sister. it was our duty to the little ones. i was never hurt by it. instead, i graduated to a higher level.
