ok I just read this story. http://www.news1130.com/news/world/...ring-edge-of-solar-system-in-newest-milestone I'm an educated man and I guess this is not really important. But when I read stuff like this. My bullshit meter goes off the scale and I would like to know why. So my questions about this story are; How the fuck are they communicating with Voyager 1? What is the transmission medium they are using? Obviously it takes time for the message to get to earth. If it took over 30 years for Voyager 1 to get this close to the edge of our solar system, what is the lag time on the data being sent? And for that matter, how are they compensating for attenuation? (signal degradation) Also this is 1970s technology they are using. I remember the 70s and to the best of my knowledge, we weren't playing the stuff of Star Trek. This just does not add up.
The lag time is only about 16 hours, the thing is fueled by radiation and it uses simple radio transmission with an antenna to send information back to Earth. Sending messages through space isn't hard if you know what frequency to tune into, some aliens might be listening to some of Earth's earliest broadcasts from the 1920's and 30's right now. We do the same exact thing, the SETI program scans the sky looking for radio signals that could be created by life, hell we may have found one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wow_signal *edit* In fact here's a map of where our radio and television signals are if anyone out there is tuning into them
That does not explain the problems with attenuation and other interference. Radiowaves disperse in much the same way a drop of ink in a glass of water would. Eventually a radio signal would just become background noise.
you don't even have any basis for your paranoia. You don't seem that educated to me. NASA has done this, we didn't land on the moon as much as they say, or drive a go-kart around on it, but there's nothing pointing to this being the same.
Huygens principle • Dutch physicist and astronomer Christiaan Huygens (1629 - 1695) offered an explanation of wave propagation near obstacles (diffraction) in the far field. • Each point of an advancing wave front acts as a source of secondary spherical waves. The advancing wave as a whole is the sum of all the secondary waves arising from points in the medium already traversed. When the wave front approaches an opening or barrier, only the wavelets approaching the unobstructed section can get past. They emit new wavelets in all directions, creating a new wave front, which creates new wavelets and new wave front, etc. -the process self-perpetuates. • Example: two rooms are connected by an open doorway and a sound is produced in a remote corner of one of them; in the other room the sound seems to originate at the doorway As the energy in a radio wave goes on propagating forever without loss http://www.mike-willis.com/Tutorial/PF4.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Space_Network http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyager_1#Interstellar_mission
Radio waves are already background noise, look at how many frequencies there are, they travel a long distance though as long as you know what frequency to listen into.
I don't know if signals could go outside our galaxy though, interstellar space is vast in comparison.
It'll probably get upgraded by some artificial intelligence and come back to destroy us all. "I am Nomad. I am perfect. That which is imperfect must be sterilized."
Oh, we DID land on the moon, I know people who have personally seen the flag.... There's moon rocks, which I have personally seen... But Watch the moon rover videos. They're flat out fake looking, and if you speed them up, they become..... realtime full gravity earth videos.... I forget the amount to speed it up, but I think it's 50%? It's quite striking. It looks RATHER like we where there less than we said.
I think the plot to Star Trek: The Motion Picture is apropos here; a Voyager spacecraft comes back as intelligent and whips some ass.
Surely you have more evidence than that. I mean if I speed up a cassette it sounds like chipmunks are talking, that doesn't mean chipmunks made the recording. And considering no one really gave a hoot about later moon landings; Nielson ratings were way down on the broadcasts, the public was not interested, the space race already won... I fail to see a motive for such a hoax; especially with only such a very small, questionable piece of 'evidence'.
Merkler I'm not doubting you specifically. I doubt EVERYTHING untill it can be shown that some validity is there. Off the top of my head the solar system is like 1/2 a light day in diameter. So transmissions are in the order of 5 to 6 hours of travel @ s o l . [does that sound right. thats a long way. The ort cloud being some 100 plus days s o l out] The transmission medium would be radio . what else was there? What is being sent? Simple morse? Then our radar arrays can get it even at many times this distance. If complex data was being sent then No. i would agree straight off. One: Nasa might be saying that more is there than what is.. Maybe there is some sort of signal but wtf it is is lost in distance and scatter. But its good PR. or Two: A vast machine combine intelligence has captured it and are right now on their way here to probe our orifices. You are correct to question 'givens' fronted by governments. They say anything to reinforce their perceived position. So in my book that we are still in contact with that 'piece of junk' is dubious [doubt] thank you for heads up. Occam
Radio. Many hours. Is this a problem? Really, really BIG receiving antennas. Big, like hundreds of feet across. And really, really powerful amplifiers connected to those big antennas. It's not rocket science. Okay, maybe it is rocket science , but it's not difficult. You just need enough bucks to build the hardware.
