i have seen my share of people wheeled into the ER from caffeine intoxication. i'm not surprise by this. i just heard the other day on the radio that, there is this drink on the market that has both alcohol and caffine in it. one 16 oz. can of that stuff, has as much alcohol as 3, 16 oz. cans of beer and, as much caffeine as 3, 8 oz. cups of coffee. several people have already died from drinking that stuff.
The energy drink/shot mixes can do the same thing. Vodka and red bull, Jagerbombs, stuff like that can cause heart problems if too much is drunk.
I used to be a total coffee freak. Then I switched to Diet Pepsi. Now it's pretty much bottled water (even though I still drink 1-2 bottles of Pepsi when I first wake up). Very sad story about the young dude that died... QP
This is what happens when you drink too much coffee.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGtKGX8B9hU"]YouTube - Le Cafe
Here you go, you mugs. Enter your body weight, pick your poison, and then click the 'kill me' button. http://www.energyfiend.com/death-by-caffeine .
Theobromine poisoning. Every so often a story surfaces about a cat or dog that O.D.s on chocolate, sometimes near Easter time when a pet gets into the Easter basket. Dark chocolate apparently has more of the stuff. Whether it's caffeine or theobromine, it comes down to how well the body can metabolize the substance. Too much of the stuff at one time can kill ya. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theobromine_poisoning .
I've experienced far worse effects from coffee and energy drinks than from cannabis. When I have a lot of work I sink back into the 2-3 coffees a day routine, then a week later i'm regretting it when my mood drops extremely low, sleep disturbances and lots of anger and stress. It took me a long time to realize it was the caffeine doing it. This is a serious drug, it's just that people are so used to it that they think it's normal to experience the physiological changes that caffeine gives.
Heres todays fun fact "coffea" the homoeopathic remedy made from coffee is mainly used for... insomnia:scholar:
Better outlaw caffeine now....it can kill! Protect us from ourselves! I actually OD'd a tad on caffeine pills when in high school, like a dumbass. I have never felt that sick in my life and I've used quite a few "hard" drugs.
That's not too strange, mostly though for people who are alergic to caffeine and didn't realize. They'll take a large amount, then know something is up. This needs to be treated right away, as it can be fatal. I worked with a guy that had a sever caffeine overdose, and if he hadn't made it to the hospital he would have died.
Quite sad..... I can only think he wanted to end it all (NO PERSON WOULD DO THIS I DONT THINK W/O HAVING AN AGENDA)
Some people assume to use a teaspoon or two of something. In the case of that particular caffeine product, that approach will likely kill you. The manufacturer could dilute the powder with something inert so that one teaspoon or two wouldn't be lethal. Or put it in a capsule form or something that is less likely for someone to inadvertently kill himself. Even that won't stop everyone from killing himself. A college student a few years ago took 70 caffeine capsules as a sort of prank and killed himself. Excerpt from posted article: He also criticized the product, which was not named in the inquest, for recommending such a small dosage, which could be easily ignored. "Who would take [one sixteenth of a teaspoon]? It's such a small dosage -- the warning is so small on the front of it," Chapman said. "If you're sharing a bag, carrying it around, and if you hadn't seen the warning -- it could be that anyone at the party could have taken it. It's so dangerous to take something like this." .
What he said^^^ Caffeine is a heavy duty substance. It's the only drug Ive been addicted to. Anyway, I see it at work too with young people and sodas and energy drinks. I've literally seen a psychotic break from too much sugar and caffeine. Granted, this person had other issues, but caffeine is not without risks.
