Well, no. I can get others to treat me with respect without being disrespectful toward them. "Respect" caused by fear is not true respect and therefore not something I'm interested in. I can get by in life by being nice.
I would like to point out that when faced with racist comments I have in the past tended to show them a middle finger or two. I just don't think it's necessary to intimidate people when they aren't harming me...
That's my opinion and my experience; it's possible that you and I live very different lives.

 

Just picture this (imagine your me).

You're walking your girlfriend to school and you stand outside with her for a couple minutes while she finishes a cigarette. You're in the middle of a conversation when all of a sudden some kid tries to embarrass you in front of a large group of people.

What do you do? Let the others laugh and then make fun of you everytime you walk by? Or do you put an end to it.

I just wanted that to never happen again (since it already happened once before, but not to this extent). So I put a stop to it.

I admit maybe squeezing his hand was a little overboard, but if you're gonna try to hurt someone, just make sure you can back it up when they get offended.

I don't think that you're racist, like other posters claimed. You just used a harsh word because you're an angry person... Nothing wrong with that, but you may make yourself a target later on.




However, I must say that the favouritism of the mods on this forum astound me. If I quote someone using the N word I get kicked from the chat room, but if someone makes a post where they not only use the word, but use it aggressively they face no punishment for their actions.

 

I'd flip the bird and laugh at them. I might not even do that, I might just stick my tongue out at them... And then I'd probably forget about it. I wouldn't spit or squeeze the guy's hand.
Anyway the important part of this is "tries to embarrass you" - it wouldn't embarrass me, so I personally wouldn't care. I'm easily embarrassed too, I don't really get what what was embarrassing but that's not the point of this, it obviously just did.

 

It's the fact that he tried to seem "superior" to me in front of a bunch of people.

CC, it's not that you didn't have the right to be pissed, it's that you don't handle it well. From any point of view. If you were secure in yourself you wouldn't have felt threatened that the guy called you out in front of your girlfriend and a big group of people. You would have laughed it off, maybe talked some shit back to him but in a joking manner, and taken it no further than that. You are obviously not secure in yourself so you felt the need to act like a big macho man and prove something to the group and to your girlfriend. That could just be a high school mentality that you grow out of eventually. If you don't grow out of it you're going to have a hard time getting along with anybody in life.
