Pretty much everything midgardsun has posted and the weather in Europe at the moment is just supporting the IPCC's predictions.
And some wonder why the terminology was surreptitiously switched from "global warming" to "climate change". The ilk of the corporate and government character (or lack thereof) suggests to be that if there in fact was man made climate change/global warming/cooling/nefarious equilibrium, it would be exploited to cultivate a market for so-called green industries that do not correct the problem but divert dollars from the rest of the economy to the coffers of opportunistic exploiters of public panic over what is likely a contrived crisis.
Though I think the recent snow in northern Europe as well as the recent dry cold snap all along the entire US east coast(it's still yet to snow here in New England) has to due with a huge high pressure system over the Greenland area, I heard it has some of the highest atmosphere pressures recorded ever. Cap and trade is essentially a green industry created to make money off a serious problem.
So many cold snaps and snow storms in the Northern Hemisphere and still the ice cover in the Arctic is far behind what it used to be for the season. Surely a manipulation of CIA and the IMF. No, wait! Thicker snow storms is what is to expect in a warming process. When the climate is cooling you see less snow storms and less snow fall because of the dry conditions and the snow cover reaching unusual areas AND staying everywhere for much longer periods. The cherry picked collection of maps, photos and pieces of news only shows that if you torture enough any set of data and kill all of them that confront you, you can make the remaining ones to confess anything.
I read somewhere yesterday the although the ice field at the artic is shrinking the ice at the anartic is actually growing. Wish I could remember the source to add the link. I'll try and find it and if I do I'll add it later.
I always thought the globe was warming leading to climate change in one form or another, with various knock on effects (cold weather there causes warm weather here etc). It is slightly ridiculous to talk about "global warming" if the part of the world you are living in is encountering ever increasing cold weather. I guess that's why most people talk about "climate change" rather than "global warming". The scientific consensus is that anthropogenic global warming is occurring. Everything/body is going green now. The same people making money out of pollution are starting to make money out of green technology. Inevitably, as consumers buy green technology (for what ever reasons or nudges you wish to concoct) it will have an effect on the environment. Everybody wins. Including the planet. BP believes that a diverse energy mix including fossil fuels and renewables, produced and used efficiently, is best able to meet demand affordably at the same time as providing security of supply and addressing the issue of climate change http://www.bp.com/subsection.do?categoryId=2314&contentId=7060405 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq33yjAFZsI&NR=1"]YouTube - Family Guy: Seth MacFarlane (Stewie) - Eco Tip
I don't need to understand the atmosphere or climate science to backup my sentiments here...because it concerns the immediate and obvious truth. It appears to me that people are desperately trying to justify their use of petrol by looking at statistical anomalies rather than simply looking out the window. Car exhaust is used in a popular method of suicide, a numerical figure of it's presence in the atmosphere doesn't give us any reason to relax. we don't really know what it used to be before we started pumping it wholeheartedly into the sky. In addition, the trees that we probably need for it to go away are being cut down more and more. Industrial capitalism in it's current form is a dead end one way street from which there is no return. No balding men with slide shows will justify the looming smog. It's there and it wasn't there before and now it's getting bigger. But..you'll keep driving your cars. I'll keep catching the bus. Life goes on.
Well the human body contains very low amounts of silver and mercury, so that must mean that they are safe in higher amounts. Right?
I know! I'm bad =( I usually catch a bus to the train (which uses electricity that comes from coal probably) which is also bad. I can't really do anything about it right now, It's an hours trip by BUS and that would kill me on a bike. I'm trying to move closer to uni, but it's so difficult...even for people with jobs to get places with landlords who don't trust students. I also understand that people need cars especially in rural areas. Sometimes the bus is FULL, meaning it saves on the net fuel expenditure, it's still not a fix...what the fix is renewable resources and hydrogen/electric cars...we know the solutions we are just addicted to cheap quick fixes rather than making big expensive changes. Car companies are still churning out petrol-only engines...such shortsightedness. Part of me can't wait for the day the last oil rig runs dry
enk, thanks for being a realist. And you are not bad. I was just hacking on you. Sorry. Car companies are still churning out oil fueled cars because it is cheaper. Like I've said, is there a cheaper alternative where we could just switch to over-night? Millions of people just don't want to pay the premium yet. I'm sure it's a corporate conspiracy, though ALL of me can't wait.
They were talking on the news about the UK having a spate of cold winters and whether or not we should be preparing for this kind of climate long term. The meteorologist said that it was near impossible to say what kind of climate to expect over a ten year period because the science was not advanced enough. So how can we be so sure that the planet will be warmer in 100 years? I bring these points up with people who support the AGWH,as an open minded skeptic, and they just accuse me of bringing up "zombie arguments" and act like they can't be bothered explaining their side of the argument.
You're confusing climate with weather. No one ever claimed to be able to predict whether it will snow or not on a particular year. There is a relationship between climate and weather, but it is a weak one. 2010 was one of the warmest on record and look at Europe's snow now.
