Just looking for some opinions here. I say Sublime is far better than Slightly Stoopid, others say I have it backwards. Not saying SS is bad, I just dont see the comparison. Anyone on the other side of the argument care to explain their thoughts on it?
Slightly Stoopid songs sound like children's campfire songs in comparison. Actually they kinda sound like children's campfire songs without any comparison..
haha i dont completely disagree. I only really like Closer to the Sun. It just blows my mind when some one comes up to me and says the are the new Sublime. fuck that
I slightly prefer Slightly Stoopid, actually. Maybe it was the live acoustic album that blew me away, but to name a few Collie Man Wise Man Closer To The Sun Officer Running With A Gun Everything You Need Fire Shot Cocaine They have some brilliant songs. And anyways, they sound nothing alike, Bradley signed them and that's why there's the comparison.
Yeah, they really don't. I think no matter which you prefer, it's clear that Sublime had a much more various blending of genres into one much more original style. Slightly Stoopid has clear latin influence, and more modern bassline, but they have a really rooted and classic reggae sound overall
yeah, agreed. Slightly Stoopid are good on their own merit. I actually think the musicianship is of a better quality, they play some wonderful guitar. That is something i'm sure people will probably disagree with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFGmnJQ_BF0&feature=related"]YouTube - Slightly Stoopid-Closer to the Sun
Sublime is my favorite band and are far superior then Slightly to me too. Although I do like Slighty Stoopid some of their songs can annoy the hell out of me. Some examples: Sensimilla, fireshot, and cool down. I have a hard time understanding their lyrics in a bad way. Bradley Nowells lyrics and freestyles are notoriously hard to understand as well but in a much better and more tolerable way in my opinion. I love Bradley's lyrics (I am aware he was like a dj and often used bits an pieces of lyrics from classic root reggae songs). He had the power to do pretty much anything with his voice... its amazing. I'm not baggin on Slightly because I do like them, it's just that their some of their music can be pretty cheesy at times. Some of my favorite songs from Slightly Stoopid are: Leaving on a jet plane (beginning chorus annoys me), I would do for you, Collie Man, Wiseman, Up on a plane, Killin me deep inside
Slightly Stoopid have duel vocals, the one guy is very easy to understand. Anyways, it's really not comparable. They are different genres of music.
different genres? I think that's a bit far fetched, they do each have a unique sound though. Sublime all the way, just more down with stoner/tripping vibe. They started or at least popularized the white boy reggae stylee. I'm saturated in this type of music where I live, in fact I even lived with a reggae band for a bit.
I think Slightly Stoopid's instrumental music is a lot more technically tough, and shows more skill in that department. But their overall song composition is usually pretty basic (and to me, boring) stuff. So, basically, Bradley Nowell is why Sublime was better =P
Haha pretty much. Although I do think the drums and bass of Sublime are pretty fucking awesome... but ive heard a taped message Brad left on someones voicemail and he's like "Eric and Bud are in Costa Rica right now livin it up with all the money im makin them.. They leave me here to write the new record" hahaha
