I'm nearly at the end of this book (which is now one of my favorites). It's like a first hand look from a Pyschologist. The Dr. lives in communes on both the east and west coast. He travels with "High Priests" of the movement and gets really good word for word information from them. He does questionnaires with them about the beliefs of the movement. He had never dosed or smoked pot before he took on the journey of this book, but to remain unbiased he does do acid and smokes weed. Throughout the book he takes a really really deep look at the movement. He talks with many youths of the movement and asks them questions like "why they 'dropped out', questions about their background and etc.

Theres a part in the book where he discusses psychosis in the hippie movement. He states that there were a good number of youth who were psychotic and used the movement of Peace and Love as a shield to hide themselves from society. They found refuge with the scene. He then goes on to explain that the Hippie movement did not believe in emotional diseases such as pyschosis and depression. Is this true?

anyway to any young person or teen that is interested in all things "Hippie" this is the book for you. This book is satisfying my hunger for knowledge on this subject. To get first hand knowledge is really hard to do unless you know someone who was around back then. But this book will give you all the information you want, and more. It gives me a nostalgic feeling... really awesome. You'll love it.
