What the fuck happened to that kid, did they send him away for aversion therapy? One minute he's into ballet and abba and dressing up as girls, and next thing he goes away for the holiday and returns as the local school bully! Obviously they have changed the actor to accomodate the new young Mitchell brothers gangster story arc, which in all fairness looks like it could be quite good. I thought they were building up that story where Ben was going to turn out to be gay and there would be this whole father son relationship struggle with Phil Mitchell having to come to terms with it and stuff, that would be more boring than reading a Harry Potter film score. Maybe one of them will turn out to be gay, like them Kemp brothers from Spandau Ballet. Anyway, I was going to post this on facebook but I thought it might be too edgy, I just wanted to make the joke Ben Mitchell, did Phil send him away for aversion therapy, I thought it was quite funny.
A few of the child actors have suddenly aged a few years to seemingly accommodate more gritty storylines (the younger versions could not act to save their lives anyway). But as all of the writing team on EEs are homosexual, you might have a point.
i hate when they change characters, i seen that episode of eastenders too and i was like what!! who the fucks this...lol
British soap opera script writers are all gey? never.... I noticed they swapped Lauren as well recently because she didn't grow up fast enough end ended up looking younger than her younger sister Abby. I like the new version or Lauren better, and she is now old enough to legally fancy! I reckon they briefed Steve McFadden about the upcoming Ben turns gay storyline and he went "you wot?" and they all got scared and thought it might be best not to go down that road. Either that or they probably realised that he is a very one-dimensional actor that can only pull off gangster storylines.
It tends to happen a lot with child actors in soap operas, for obvious reasons. But it is annoying when they do it with adult characters. They did it with Sam Mitchell years ago and then recently changed back to the original actress, once she had gotten over her crack addiction.
It's not that well known, actually. Very dicy ground there. :bobby: Steve is such a lovely. He would have been fine with it. Have you been watching it for the last 5 years?
Come off it. Did you see him playing the junkie recently? I mean it's not a difficult part to play, is it.... He always plays the same part odon, he is very limited as an actor, not as bad as grant though...
Steve has his limitations. But to characterise him as just being able to play the gangster is slightly unfair. True. Probably why he hasn't had an acting gig since.
What part has he played in EE that hasn't involved him being a gangster type then, and pulled it off?
LOL Wot Father Xmas? To be fair he isn't that bad, some of the actors they get in these soaps are very good, just McFadden isn't in the 'very' category. I think Max Branning has turned out to be a really good character, I hope they don't every actually kill him off.
No, I would say none of them are very good. Their one above performing in panto. But it is a soap opera and not the RSC, I guess. I just think Steve is a solid actor and can do most things rather well, for a soap, that is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOCfUnU6ThM&feature=related"]YouTube - Phil discovers he's a dad Part 2 - EastEnders - BBC I'm not sure who is "very good". Dot? Please
Some of them are good actors, just they don't always shine through the scripting and direction, they have a lot of material to get through... Most of them are typecast, but there are a few that I would consider to be worthy, Ken Loach material or maybe something else. The director always plays an important role in moulding a person for a role.
Dot for one. That youtube link wont work, because my computer is bipolar, please post me the youtube link. I installed some safari extensions that block flash and things like that and it's all gone pete tong.
I knew it! Ok, to be fair...judging by the median of the acting world...most of them are very good. If you compare their efforts to others they are very good. But they are in soaps for a reason. Steve is part of the cream. What has dot done that has been valuable over the last decade? /watch?v=MOCfUnU6ThM&feature=related
Characters in soaps, old and new that I would consider to be well acted, in no particular order. I can't be arsed looking up the actors names. Dot (ee) Hilda Ogden (corrie) Fat Pat The legendary Mike Reid Stacy Slater Alfie Moon Most of the Dingles from Emmerdale Jimmy Corkshill Fuck I don't know odon, off the top of me 'ead. I'll try and think of more. But take a lot of the performances given by these actors/essess and put them in the cotext of an art film and would they be just as good, or bad? What makes a good actor? The ability to act all poncey and do shakespear? Or the ability to present a convincing portrayal of a character other than your self to the degree of lucidity whereupon their own self becomes indiscernible. You say it is one step up from panto, but I would say shakespear is one step up from reciting an intellectual book to an audience of radio 4 listeners.
V Good point. When I am in the thick of it, I can agree. But when you step back and are not a fan, it all does seem rather rubbish.
