The UK is considering a proposal to block access to all porn websites by its citizens to protect children. Those wishing to access such websites would need to "opt-in". Is this proposal, which is supported by several British ISPs, going to be the start of full-scale Internet censorship in the UK? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/20/internet-porn-block-uk-co_n_799034.html
In the words of Perry Cox: 'i'm fairly sure if you took porn off the internet there would only be one site left, and it'd be called 'being back the porn''.
It's ridiculous, how about we shouldn't have to buy software to protect our computers, and instead each computer comes with an installed site blocker that must be used? They are using children as an excuse to exercise control.
Odon's likely response: "This is a good thing, cause the Internet is a dangerous place for children. Porn perverts children worse than priests. And they should block wikileaks and hipforums too!" But then again, Odon would have to now opt into most of the sites he visits... OK, back on topic, leave Odon to masturbate alone...
Wow, this is very worrying. It is the parents job to protect their children from what they don't want them to see, not the governments job. Seriously, that really pisses me off! And it's not like I am a fan of porn, because I am not, but this is such a ridiculous violation of people's rights.
Im bored with all the free porn anyways.. Ive seen it all. besides I have 2 giant boxes full of VHS porn (legit movies) never bothered to watch a single one yet only cause its there at the click of a mouse..
I wonder if could even pass. The conservatives can't pass anything alone, and I don't see the Lib Dems going on board with this since it's not something that would break the coalition. Labour though is up in the air.
sites that attack browsers, malicious pops up.. Porn or not, need to be eradicated.. remember the IE cascade effect clicking on the wrong porn site in the past..
Download as much porn as possible asap if you live in Great Britain, I guess. But I doubt something so extreme as a the government blocking kids from looking at pictures of naked people would ever pass, and I doubt it could even work, to be honest. I have never heard of any kid being "hurt" by pornography (save for children being forced to work in child pornography but that's pretty different). When I first looked for porn (at probably about 12 years old) on the internet I knew damn well what I was looking for and that I wanted to see it.
Since when was it not? Since when was it someone else's right to dictate that you cannot watch videos of naked people performing sexual acts with each other?
wait.. is porn becoming illegal, or easily accesible internet porn? last time I checked, they couldnt put porn on basic television.. or billboards.. or in previews for g rated movies.. I was under the impression that the reason it exists in the internetz is that theres nothing they can really do to stop it. I`m not saying im in support of the law or anything.. but free internet porn is not up there with `life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness`. EDIT: pretty positive since always. (unless there`s a porn bill in the UK that I dont know about. I honestly know nothing about their government) Someone stated that it was a violation of rights, and I`m assuming theres no official right stating you can watch internet porn. So no. it would not be a violation of rights.
Point 1: Is child porn legal in the UK? If not, you obviously don`t have the right to view anything you like. Point 2: how do you not get this.. THEY ARE NOT MAKING PORN ILLEGAL. THEY ARE MAKING EASILY ACCESIBLE INTERNET PORN ILLEGAL. In fact, the article says that you can opt in. You can still view porn online, you just need to request it as an adult. The law`s goal is to make porn less easily accesible to children, not to outlaw it altogether.
I shouldn't need to request to be able to make a request. When I intentionally put a domain name or IP address in my browser, I'm opting in, and requesting to view porn. Do you not know how the UK's nanny state works? Soon they'll be using the fact that you opted in to view porn to find and convict you for nearby home invasions.... You can't view child pornography for obvious reasons, in any medium, digital or otherwise. If I need to explain that to you, you're a waste of all of our time and need to think about why you don't deserve to participate in this discussion. The internet is a place where you can find things easily. That's the point. It takes some level of maturity to use the internet, and porn or not, if you let your children who are too young to be unharmed by stumbling upon porn use the internet unattended, you are the problem, not the porn.
