When I was younger I noticed my cat had seperate meows for what it wanted. A distinct sounding one for when it was hungry, when it wanted to go out, and when it wanted attention. I could tell what it wanted right away by the sound of the meow. It had a couple other meows that I never did figure out.

There is no question that cats have separate meow tones to indicate what they want. It's actually really hilarious once you get to know them.

My cat back at my parents house doesn't even know how to meow properly. Sickliest and weakest meow I've heard from a healthy cat.

yeah, it is pretty funny.. one of my cats baaa's like a sheep when he knows he's doing something wrong and you yell at him, and another gets right up in you face and opens his mouth wide and goes "whyyyyyyyyyy?" when he's bored lol he also will wander around the apt like he's lost and i swear it sounds like he's saying "maaa? mommm? mom?"... i say "what do you want!" then he runs into the room and says "mauw" like "oh. there u are."

My cat is like that too. It's pretty easy to know what he wants.

my cat doesnt have word-like meows but you can tell what she wants by the amount of meows. more than usual shes hungry, and alot alot if shes pissed at you.
but i have lil kitty convos sometimes with her meowing back and forth. and i've even had a convo with a creepy stray cat too. apparently he didnt like what i said cuz i never saw him again :p

i have one cat that makes tons and tons of noise, very loud,
and the other one makes almost no noise, goes for days and days without a sound, she only rubs on people to get attention.

i talk to my cats a lot, but in words, i don't make meow sounds at them.

I talk to them, but also try to "respond in kind". They seem to like it a lot. lol

One says to me "alll right" and "why" and "okay"...the others just have basic kitty meows...and the Biggest one has the Most Pitiful, Weakest cry of all. lol
