last night at 7pm I took a two hour nap and led to me being up all night till 6am ( an hour ago) to be called in to work.... what more ironic is that i actually woked up in a nightmaren and then got the call.

I feel ya brother. I took today off for christmas eve, but on x-mas I gotta head to the beach, try to close a deal, and meet another client. I'm on call at any point if anything comes up. Ever.
^^^^^ Lol. U knw I work by the beach. Well apparently the guy that I came to work asked for me to come in......I get here and the jackass telling me how he thought I would of liked to be here.... We got seven case! Wow. And one of them isn't till 3pm which. Means am stuck here till 6-7pm!
it may suck. but I bet it's nice to have food shelter. about your nightmare that came true. I had a bad dream my mom started smoking cigs again. and she said she was quiting. I was so happy. then I had that nightmare and it came true. I don't think all dreams or nightmares come true
i always make it clear when i start a new job that i won't stand for on-call shifts, and if they don't listen i just won't answer their calls on my days off. knowing that i might have to work on a day off is such a buzzkill and fucks up my plans to no ends
My philosophy on this is perhaps irrelevant because I am in school and not actively employed, however I will submit my response and attempt to not detract too much from the subject. I think it's a good psychological break to have a day off from work on a holiday. It's a kind of absolute that can communicate to your soul that you are a member of something larger. Being that some occupations are of an on call nature, some limitations to this are to be expected. If I were in your shoes, and I know that's a funny choice of words around here, I would be upset at having to work. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get Christmas off.
I spent years on call 24x7 as a technical team leader. For my team itself, I allowed them to mostly work out an agreeable to them and me (as much as possible) rotating on-call schedule. I'd get the initial calls; and depending on the problem, I would then issue the call to the team member on call. Some calls I could handle quickly just over the phone or by a quick remote sesssion. Often enough though, a team member would need to respond on site. If needed I would also go on site to accompany my team member. But usually my on-call team member would be able to handle the issue. In all cases, however, I was still awakened/pulled from dinner or movie/whatever to handle the initial call and figure out the proper response. That lasted like 6 or 7 years. Yes there were some holidays or activities that a team member and/or myself had to miss out on. But the pay and bennies were good (enough so that I was able to retire early at 51 years of age) so it was worth it.
First of all you won't have a job if u can accept that u might need to come in on ur off days. Second not picking up your phone will get you fired. Your very immature.
lol, i thought my day off was MY DAY OFF. sorry if that seems immature. i work at restaurants, bakeries, etc, usually small places that are only open 5-6 days a week, so there isn't a need for anyone to come in on certain days. the one place that continued to try to get me to work on my off time fired me for... not coming in on my off time. whatever, it was a horrible place to work anyways, and i've always found it ridiculously easy to find work.
then you are lucky, but restaurants and bakeries usually call you in if someone else cant show up. thats part of being a part of the team. hubbyy usually goes in if hes called, but he has been called in when hes been drinking, and had to tell them he couldnt on a day off. the extra money is always worth it in this house. he has to work tonight so im taking the brat to my moms for xmas. we didnt bother with a tree or anything this year. i guess how you look at days off is up to you. if you want job security, you make yourself indispensable. if you are willing to work on your days off, when it is necesary, then they know they can depend on you, and you are worth more to them. hubby fell asleep during a surveillance shift, but they didnt fire him. granted it was their own fucking fault for making him work 12-14 days straight on shifts that werent his and he wasnt used to, but if he didnt have value to them, he would have been fired. so really its a risk management thing. and you all know how i feel about risk management
I worked last night 630pm to 4am (got off 2 and a half hours early because we finished our quota). I just woke up actually...6am to 6pm sleep was epic and well needed as the night before i got a 3 hour sleep after a 12 hour shift. Ive got to work new years but i dont reallycare..its just like any other night. Weekends dont even exist anymore. When ive got a day off its a weekend...doesnt matter if its friday or monday.
I got called out last night for an alarm. but by the time my cars heat up being that its 20F outside , I can not just jump in the car and Go.. when I had got there, there was already 2 police cars on the scene. I guess they wasnt very busy. I rolled up on them they looked at me like wtf is this guy doing?. I said "hi" and went about my job to turn it off.. They said "maybe someone is in there" and I lold.. they try small talk and I ignore them really,.. I dont talk porky pig.. it will not be bothering anyone this weekend cause I turned it OFF OFF!! like a bad santa elf..
Im on call 24/7 but that doesnt mean Im coming when they call lol...and if I do you better be prepared to pay triple or more if its Christmas or after midnight
