Alright, I went on vacation for about a week and left my B+'s unattended having sprayed them just before I left. They were in a Rubermaid tub not more than five inches from each other. I got back and the ones I had picked and put in a drawer smelled like vagina, literally, and left what looked like burn marks on the napkin I had left them on. There was one cake in the tub that had black caps and blue stems, when I picked up the cake they fell off immediately. I threw these away. The others seemed fine, some with blue stems and had hairy bases. They felt normal to the touch; that weird rubber like texture. Are the others still good? Ive been tossing the ones with black caps and slimy textures. Ive got a camping trip this coming weekend and was suppose to supply for my friends, think its safe for me to take a test run with the hairy based ones? I put so much work and time into these, its kinda depressing
I'm assuming they smell more like cat piss than a clean vagina. That is what shrooms smell like when they start rotting. They most likely have some sort of bacteria eating them. Shrooms don't last without drying ASAP They probably dropped spores The hairy stems are probably from the high humidity in your unfanned tub. Mycelium can do that around the stems in high humidity situations. Look up cobweb mold just to be sure. Better luck next time.
Thank you all for the input, I'm so relieved there is still a chance for them. I'll upload a photo or two when I get home. My sisters are in from out of town so drying will be a challenge; just gotta get creative I guess. Now that I'm back, think I can get one more flush? Wonka, thanks man. Still plan on eating one before feeding my friends
Verify its not cobbweb, pictures will be great Also what are you using for drying? The key is to get them as dry as possible ASAP. Use a home made dehydrator.
After browsing Google Image results for cobweb mold I have to say none of them look like what was on the mushrooms. There was no mold on the cakes at all, just at the base of the stems. Right now theyre sitting in my dresser drawer pressed in some towels. I read somewhere that wood drawers help dry stuff quicker but its pretty much my only option. Dont want my sisters asking questions or finding out I grew them. Any good concealable way to dry them? The picture is of the "bad" ones that I threw most of away. The lot of ones I threw away looked worse than this and I thought they had gone completely bad. I decided to dry these out anyway, you can see the drawer layout. I had a towel on top of these and the good ones are drying under it
Wood especially cedar will help keep things dry in a damp basement or something, but i don't think the wood from your drawer will be able to effectively pull moisture from your shrooms. Basically make something like your FC, use a large tupperware container, put a layer of damprid or some desiccant on the bottom with a screen to elivate the shrooms, cut a 4" whole in it and place a fan in front of that whole. Also make a few other small wholes. Have you had any luck drying with your current setup, doesn't seem like it would work well to me. I think its best to have atleast some sort of air movement, your method seems like it would promote rotting since they will still be sitting in a damp towel if they do dry. If your limited to that drawer i would get rid of the towel, try to make that basic dehydrator in your drawer or something similar. Drying is the like the most important step man, not 100% but i believe psilocybin will start to oxidize if their not dried quickly and you can't keep them for long either.
I build a screen /old window screen will do. Lay shroom on that , put it between 2 chairs, let a fan blow up on the shrooms.. when they are done drying they should bounce around from the wind, when they are fresh they just lay there due to water weight.. works for me, bag them place in freeezer.. you can not just lay a shroom on a table and expect it to dry..... ?some will just turn slimmy on a hard surface and smell like Fish. WW mentioned that. ..
Fuck Ill have time tomorrow. The towel method has proved worthless but has preserved them for the time being haha. This sucks, time to get to work
Did a little MacGyver work: Found a 9V battery... or six? Its a big one Found an old computer fan, runs full blast at 12V Tore the connector off the end of the fan Connected it to the battery Result: Nice, consistent, flow of air over the mushrooms. Not over powering but a good circulation within the drawer. I replaced the towels with a single piece of plastic wrap, like saran wrap but thicker and non-clingy. The drawer is cracked to allow some ventilation. My only hope is that my closet doesnt smell like cat urine before I get some air freshener. Does that all sound good? Might place a plate in there rather than plastic tomorrow
^that will do.. or jerry rig a hair dryer .. get one that has settings , almost all them do today hi, low, hot, cool, One that has a low heat: fix so the trigger stays on. wedge handle on a tool box or something metal away from fire if you wanna be cautious, rig it in the bathtub so if it did catch fire, it isnt going anywhere.. I doubt a hair dryer on low will catch fire anyways. Steal one from your mom or sister. < remember karma though.
Ill upload a photo tomorrow. Probably going to move it all to a bigger drawer so theres none drying on top of each other. I heard blow dryers arent the best idea plus leaving one on but unattended just sounds like a bad time brew.
Alright, just an update I guess: They are growing good and well now, although I have noticed the caps turning black on a cake or two so I went ahead and plucked them right off before it got any worse. Ive broken one cake in half because it wasnt fruiting very well before. Now, as you can see in the photo, its doing just fine. In the photo of the drawer you can see the 6V battery, fan, drying plate, and storage container (where the dry ones go). Will be storing in a mason jar once I get the last bits of vermiculite off them
wow just put them on a sunny window sill they will be cracker dry in less than a day. I once dried and ate very rotten B+. Shit was all black with green goo in the stems. I dried, ate, tripped balls and had a great time. No discomfort or anything, they didnt even taste different.
In regards to this topic I was looking on the shroomery for some ideas on this but could not find anything, granted I did not look hard. I have no idea if this would work, as I have yet to grow my own, but I do not see a reason why it would not, despite possibly being to slow. Has anyone here tried rice to dry their shrooms? Either in a bowl of rice on their own or possible combined with another method with a fan (so long as your not blowing rice around). I ask this because many people use rice to get every last bit of moisture out of things that shouldnt have much in them. Cell phones for example. Many "lost causes" have been saved by throwing the turned off phone a bag of rice overnight.
