Hey all! I've lurked on here for a while, but now I'm getting ready to start growing my own!

I'm wanting to do a grow in a Secret Jardin DR100 tent, which is ~3.25'x3.25'x6'. I've got a couple buddies to help me with nutes and such, so I have some fairly ambitious goals for the first grow. However, I have a question about lighting that they weren't sure about.

I was going to do a shit ton of CFLs, but after further consideration, have decided to go with a switchable MH/HPS lighting system. If possible, I'd like to use a 1000 watt system.

The plan is to use a 160 CFM inline fan to cool the light using outside air, and a 400 CFM inline fan to pull air through a carbon filter inside the tent to the outside. Then of course, just have passive intake. I keep my house around 65-70 degrees, and I'm wondering if this setup will keep the tent cool enough. It's going to be a RDWC with the controller/reservoir outside of the tent. Oh, almost forgot...also going to have an oscillating fan inside to keep good air flow and thicken up those stems.

I've also thought about supplementing CO2, but wondered how well this would work if I'm venting the tent.

Thanks in advance everyone! I'm excited to get going and see some pretty ladies grow up before my eyes!

1kw is a bit too big for that setup, go with 400-600w. Or try a 90w LED UFO would work well with that size tent, and would run much cooler:>)

Thanks for the input natural! I think I'm going to go with an air cooled 600W.

I really enjoy your posts, and have learned a LOT from reading your stuff!:thanks:

you should hook your venting system going from your light hood to the carbon filter then outside from the way you described it it sounded like you were going to have 2 vents if your trying to cover the smell with the carbon filter then the smell will just travel thru the light vent insted. also for a room that size 600w might be good but it might be better to go with two smaller lights since your room is a rectangle shape and the hoods they make for the lights are designed to give primary light in more of a square shape (ex. 1000w placed at the right hight will give you a 8' x 8' primary light with a 12' x12' secondary light) so with the bigger bulb youll be able to cover the space you need but youll also be waisting alot of light and it might be harder to cool the room. but from my exp with the 1000w as long as you have the complete encloser (hood) and a exsust fan attached to it it really dosnt get that hot but my room is 50' x 100' so maybe thats the differnce with the heat (ive always had trouble keeping it warm enuff lol)

lol sorry read the measurements wrong
and found the specs on the light
250w light; inital lumen output(lm)-30,000.intensity at 1'-30,000.intensity at 2'-7,500.intensity at 3'-3,333. area of coverage-0.6mx0.6m(2'x2'). minimum gap between lights and foliage-15cm(6").
400w light; inital lumen output(lm)-50,000. intensity at 1'-50,000. intensity at 2'-12,500. intensity at 3'-5,555. area of coverage-0.9mx0.9m(3'x3'). minimum gap between lights and foliage-25cm(10")
600w light; inital lumen output(lm)-90,000.intensity at 1'-90,000. intensity at 2'-22,500. intensity at 3'-10,000. area of coverage-1.0mx1.0m(3.3x3.3) minimum gap between lights and foliage-35cm(1.1')
1,000w light; inital lumen output(lm)-140,000. intensity at 1'-140,000. intensity at 2'-35,000. intensity at 3'-15,555. area of coverage-1.2mx1.2m(4'x4') minimum gap between lights and foliage-45cm(1.5')

thair were some astrixs written at the bottom of the page i got this info from they go as follows 1. (pertaining to intensity at 1') the inverse square law defines the relationship between light emitted from a point source and distance(i.e. intencity = light output / distance squared). 2.(pertaining to area of coverage)assumes lights are mounted vertically. 3.(pertaining to minimum gap between lights and foliage) assumes lights or shades not cooled. gap can be reduced by useing cooled shades/lights.

lol according to this i need to double my lighting. lol like i could afford to do that. anyway hope it helps

    Ya, that.

    http://www.thctalk.com/gallery/data/500/HPS-Light-Distance-Chart.jpg

600 is good. By the time your plants are 3 ft tall, they'll be toast with 1k.

Remember, some strains can double in height when you flower.

12"-18" pots, plus 8"-12" room for light... leaves you 3 1/2 to 4 feet of height.

If you grow 2 foot plants, ya. go for that 1kw.
