I've been thinking lately if I could die tomorrow or next week than why not just die now.. whats the point of living if I'm just going to die soon... And I try hard not to believe in the world ending on 2012 but with everything I see and hear about it happening I think 'Why not just die now if I'm going to die in a year'. And I'm just really bummed out..
People have been saying the world is going to end for forever now, personally, I think the world has a better chance of ending tomorrow or even as you read this post than in 2012. And even if it does end in 2012, who gives a fuck, there's nothing we can do about it anyway so sit back and enjoy the ride. :sunny:
THE WORLD WILL NOT END IN 2012. Having been on earth for 35 years I remember in 1981 the planets were supposed to move into an exact straight line and the gravitational fields were supposed to pull all of planets into the sun. Guess what. It didn't happen. It was supposed to happen again in 1984. Guess what. It didn't happen. In 2000 the computers that controlled everything were supposed to control everything were supposed to spaz out and launch nuclear weapons, kill electricity to millions and reduce the world to chaos. Guess what. It didn't happen. End of the world scenarios are a good way to control people. Then we make movies about it and hype it up to get asses in movie theaters. OK that rant is over. I know that this is going to sound a little contradictory but the one most important thing that I've learned from studying Buddhism is impermanance. Every thing is changing constantly. I find this concept to be very reassuring. When things are going shitty I remember this. I know that it wasn't shitty before this and it will change. And when things go well I know that they won't always so I enjoy it while I can. So either way it isn't that big a deal and it will change. Stay Brown, Rev J
"You never want a serious crisis to go to waste"- Rahm Emmanuel "never waste a good crisis"- Hillary Clinton. Survive the global collapse and you'll be in position to rule the world... you can declare yourself king for life! Now turn that frown upside down...
A little contradictory? LOL DG... It doesn't matter when the world is going to end... You should be living your life in a manner that makes sense to you regardless. At any moment in time, your life could end... that is a part of life... Choosing to end it sooner rather then later (whether based on fact or fable), is only choosing to give up on yourself. You have no idea what may be around the corner tomorrow for you. You could meet a person whose very existence sings to your soul and to whom your's does the same... If you were to end it now... How could that happen? Even assuming that the world will end next year... would you run a 10 mile race, only to give up before you crossed the finish, just because you can see the end in front of you?
The possibiities in life are endless, and this includes the possiblity of death. On the flip side of that coin, it also includes possibilities for great things to happen.
Do you know what I'm so glad I have just read that because this is my biggest fear, the world ending when I'm alive. Personaly as I'm getting older I'm trying not to believe It and thinking If It was gonna end It be all over the news. REally scares me an hate It when people do try an scare me about It.
I think we should live as though the world will end in 2012. To the fullest and with no regrets. Regardless of what happens.
I call it the Chicken Little effect. The news is a very powerful tool to control the populace. Every time there is a new epidemic I start doing math. I'll use SARS as an example: 2% Mortality Rate. Out of that: 98% Over the age of 70 or under the age of 5. Out of that the mortality rate of the rest of that 98% Compromised Immune systems. Now I do the math from there. I'm 35 years old with a strong enough immune system. The chances of me dying of SARS pretty fucking slim. Yet the news reports seemed to make it sound like a Biblical fucking plague that was going to wipe out 98% of the population when in all actuality it would only make them sick for about a week. Question this shit for all it is worth. THE SKY ISN'T FALLING. Stay Brown, Rev J
Even if the world ends in 2012, which is not going to happen (a lot of people theorize that the end of the Mayan calendar does not mean the world is going to end, it just signifies the end of a certain era of time. Certain people like Terrence Mckenna theorize that the end of the Mayan calendar signifies the end of the way humans view time, ie linear) wouldn't you rather stick around a couple of years and die with your friends and family instead of dying alone now?
Yeah people seem to think It's gonna end just because the calendar Is the end. They even made a film called 2012 lol! Yes I would want to die not alone with my family and friends but I atleast want to have children, go traverling and everything I want to do.
What is the point of living? That's you're call. You are lucky enough to live in a time and a place that gives you more options in life than most people who have lived in history. Over 300 years ago most people never left their village, had little knowledge of the world, science, history, etc. Yea I remember the alignment of the planets, acid rain, nuclear issues, swine flu, y2k. There have been plenty of them. Every generation has 'their end of the world issue'. I compare it to current day religious freaks who believe the rapture is about to happen based on what they read in the bibile-and they same freaks believed that 20 years ago, 50 years ago, a thousand years ago. They had Kurt Cameron (Growing Pains and current day religious freak) on Anderson Cooper yesterday-Anderson was trying to find a link with the dead crows and fish in Louisiana with 'the end of the world in the bible'. Thankfully even Kurt Cameron couldn't see a link-but people are crazy out there. Is there any scientific evidence for the end of the world based on the Mayan Calendar-not really. Many scientists even question if the date 2012 is correct-and even current day Mayans don't view these calendars predicting the end of the world. And yes you could die tomorrow, next year, 10 years, or 70 years from now. You need to 'balance' your short term wants/needs to what they may be tomorrw, next year, 10 years, or 70 years from now. You eat this morning so you can survive later in the day, tomorrow...you educate yourself and learn things so you can better deal with things in the future. I always joke with people who bring up the Mayan Calendar-they read a few paragraphs, saw a movie, maybe read a book-they're now an expert. Because they read it they believe it. I explain to them that my Staples Calendar ends every year-the world doesn't end-I just go out and get a new one. That's what the Mayans had planned-time to go out and get a new calendar.
I think you need to watch the movie Harold & Maude- one of the greatest movies ever made that is never mentioned- you can probably find it all on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVgcIy8kNdE"]YouTube - Harold and Maude (1971) intro "Oh! That's wonderful, Harold. Go - and love some more."
You're missing a comma; I really expected this thread to be about how awesome hippies make you feel - my answer was gonna be: "they sorta piss me off" (dunno why I went into that, I guess I just like to make that end part clear) On a related note, my girl's brother believed very heavily that the world would end on 2012 because Obama is the anti-christ. Since Obama has been a president for a bit now, and hasn't done anything to reveal himself as an evil overlord (or competent); he's changed his tune, and now 2012 will mark the beginning of a new era. I thought that was funny, hope you did. If not, I do know some knock knock jokes...
