Rice just doesnt sound like a good idea to me. These mushrooms Ive got growing have been sticking to whatever I set them to dry on so wouldnt the rice stick to them? I happen to have some rice and mushrooms that will be picked soon, think Ill throw one in a zip lock with some rice. If it works well I just might start using it for larger mushrooms as little aborts would simply get lost in the white abyss.

Not a bad idea but Im pretty sure the results are just going to be slowly dried mushroom with rice stuck to it xD

Rice might work, but not better than desicant. I would never put shrooms in a bag of rice to dry. You DO NOT want your mushrooms in direct contact with anything that will draw moisture from them, especially in a sealed bag.You really don't need anything to absorb the moisture when drying(save them for long storage).

moving air is sufficient. I always avoid any kind of heat and direct light when drying. Putting them in the window sill for sun to dry might work, but i would never do it. Nor would i ever eat anything with any kind of mold or rot, that could potentially make you very sick. Its is simply not worth the risk.

@DR Klunk - If i were you i wouldn't change anything about my drying method, what your doing is working, to be honest i am proud. I mean you went from not being able to dry your shrooms to a straight mcgyver setup, good work bro! Best of luck and keep growing and learning, and enjoy your trips, they are way better than anything else, the mushrooms will return the love you gave them;)

P.S. i tried to rep you but it won't let me.

Moving air is sufficient, and definitely the best option for the OP right now, but in my experience oxygen does more harm to potency than heat. Thats why I use a heated dehydrator to dry them as quickly and throughly as possible, then its off to the freezer or a mason jar with a desiccant and an oxygen absorber. I've used dozens of methods throughout the years and this has always worked out the best. I agree about the sun light too, bad news.

Another method I would recommended is storing fresh harvests in your stomach.

I wasnt too keen on the rice method anyway. I have some beautiful mushrooms almost ready to harvest and rather not risk the rice. I appreciate the compliment! Haha, I love being able to use my resources like that and it hasnt failed me yet. Its not in any light, quiet, a lot less odor, and easy to replace. I think the battery might be dying soon but their only ~$6 anyway. The rep worked, just checked my user page, thanks man

Fresh picked are the best, I had my best trip from them after picking a couple aborts one morning, less than a gram. I ended up tripping for 11hrs, taking about a gram every three. That was an awesome experience
