i've learned jamaican patois over the course of five years or so. it's not the most difficult thing to do, however, b/c it is an english patois. the way i did it was to watch movies and listen to music on a consistent basis. and also look up words that i was curious about.

immersion is the key. it takes at least 7 yrs. to become fluent in a language.

i really want to brush up my french and spanish.

    Hello,

learning the words and the grammar is one thing, speaking a language is the other. I write in English language every day, but I speak it only once in a blue moon. And to make it worse I have to talk to other non native speakers mostly. That doesn't help learning the correct pronunciation. So my spoken English is rough and I have a very heavy accent.

    Regards
    Gyro

    oh, i speak it too.

certainly interpreting a language is easier than actually producing it through voice or writing.
