I go to college in humboldt county. I have no motivation for school. I'm barely passed this semester. I'm majoring in political science. Why? basically it's the only subject that interests me. Yup. I'm not one of those supermotivated kids who knew they wanted to dedicate their entire life to cellularmolecularbioengineering right out of the womb. I got so fucking tired of being the ignorant one during political conversations and class discussions, that that frustration with just being the silent one with no idea what anyone was talking about, basically forced me into an interest in politics and government. And no i just want to learn more and more about it. I honestly want to study it. I just don't want to be a politician. I know college is for your career, but seriously. a career in politics? city council...? bleh... spare me...

I feel like music is becoming less and more a part of my life. There's always the pressure of where is music going to get you, and honestly I doubt anywhere. I love playing the piano but am just becoming more and more apathetic about the guitar. and I am really good at the guitar, but just frustrated with trying to get a band together and that whole deal, and just by yourself is meh. piano is where it's at for me right now. but i mean in terms of life goals. I have no idea wtf I want. I want some close friends, a nice girlfriend, and a nice place to live. that's it i guess. but of course you go to college to learn how to make money right? for a career? If it's ultimately about the money then why not just major in business? I'd hate that, but hell why bother with anything else then for me. I just don't have a passion right now... My apathy worries me. My current obsession with playing classical piano is only my way of coping with it.

You can have a career in politics without being a politician. Political analysis and political commentary, for instance.

As far as apathy and fear of the job market affecting your school: I've had a mega-dose of that. Been on the Dean's list the entire time, but this last semester trying was just so hard. The programming came natural, the astronomy interested me (at least for half the semester); but the other two classes, one difficult, one easy; were so hard for me to keep up on.
Failing one of the latter classes because I got the wrong final date (usually a double, even, triple-checker) woke me up (a little late), and I think these last two classes will go better.

the average person today switches careers every 7 years... im 28 and just going back to school now... don't pressure yourself to be something you're not ready to be.. also political science can cover quite the broad range of jobs aside from political jobs

When in doubt, become a chef. That's my backup plan if computer science fails.

I have a degree in poli. sci. and work in event production. If you are getting a B.A. it dosen't really matter what field it's in so major in something you are interested in.

    Stop buying unnecessary things.
Toss half your stuff, learn contentedness.
    Reduce half again.
List 4 essential things in your life,
    stop doing non-essential things.
Do these essentials first each day,
clear distractions focus on each moment.
Let go of attachment to doing, having more.

    Fall in love with less.
