So i worked new years and on the way home (430 am) im cruising down this backroad which is 60km^h but everyone goes 80+. There was a car infont of me doing 90 so i was. Keeping up with them. Probably about 2 to 2.5 car lengths behind them. I literally glanced down at my gps for a second to see when the next turn was and when i looked up this guy thought it was a good idea to step on the brakes as if i were driving too close. The road was wet and i slid right into him and his car was probably about half the weight of mine so it kind of just went sliding lime 15 feet. We both got out and checked for damage...there was none we could see to either of our vehicles so we didnt call the cops. He took my name and phone number but nothing else. I have a feeling him and his wife had been drinking given the time and occasion. Anyhow i didnt hear from him for nearly a week...today before work he calls and claims that the bumper is slightly separated from the body and starts asking if i have insurance. I tell him that insurance wont do anything and neither will the cops due to the length of time since the incident and the fact that he left the scene of the accident (he peeled off at like 120 after taking my name/number). He wants me to come to his house and see the car on my way home from work tomorrow morning but at this point i dont feel obligated to pay for any damage given the amount of time he waited to notify me. Basically my question is will there be an reprocussions if i just tell him that if he wanted compensation he should have callled me the day after, not nearly a week after? Since he doesnt have my plate numbers or my insurance info he has no proof that i was even involved. Just liike to hear your thoughts...please excuse spelling/grammar errors i wrote this on my phone on lunch break.
Hmm. I don't know anything since i'm 19 but I kind of agree. Y'all decided to not call the cops, and then days later he says his car is messed up..... If you say no who is he going to call?
I think you're right to tell him he missed his chance. For all you know he backed into something in the last week and decided you should pay for it. Idon' know what the exact time frame you have to report an accident but I bet you could find out by going on the website of your RMV(or whatever it's called in Canada) just to be sure you are in the right.
lol this guy sounds like a dumbass. insurance won't get involved without a police report. i'd say just don't return his calls
Yeah im gonna set my phone to send all his calls to voicemail. He can leave as many as he wants...not like anyone else does but my mother.
Plus you have visual voicemail so you can selectively ignore all his messages too lol If there was damage you would have noticed it then and there, he's a moron.
Yeah, dude is shit outta luck, he missed his chance, and he can't prove that he didn't cause this damage after the accident with no police report. No worries for you, man.
you could just go check it out and see if maybe there is more damage....you may have both been in a hurry and not noticed it in the dark...since you openly admitted you werent paying attention and following too close the accident was your fault the right thing to do is at least check it out and if its minor offer to pay some of the repair bill...but youll probably get away with it by just ignoring him ...unless he's some psycho killler that holds grudges for decades....sometimes paying a few hundred for damage that you DID do is better than getting random stalker calls and slasshed tires for the next 20-40 years
I think he missed his chance. The guy could have fucked his car up at a different time and might just use you to pay it. I wouldn't trust this whole situation.
I didnt go see him...funny my phone got cut off too since i didnt pay my bill for a while so he couldnt call if he wanted. I feel like he just wanted me to come so he could get my plate numbers...unfortunately my last name is uncommon so he could find where my parents house is if he really wanted but they are moving soon anyhow. I cant see anything happen..he fucked up by waiting so long.
And then the other guy fucked up by not wanting to get the police involved by getting a police report. The law's not gonna be on the other guy's side.
lol how was i driving poorly? If dickwad continued driving the speed he was, he would have saved us both the headache, but he felt it necessary to slow down to almost a stop for no real reason. If i hadnt looked down to check my gps i wouldnt have hit him as the extra second and a half would have been enough for me to react. But anyways im not giving him shit, if he was serious he could have called me the day after, not a week after.
the way you described it right there says that you are completely 100% at fault. you bad driver, you... but the other guy shouldve done something about it right when it happened. he missed his only opportunity, so fuck him with a sick dick.
you were speeding, tailgaiting and not looking at the road i hate when people tailgate me, especially at night. i routinely hit my brakes to let the asshole behind me know i don't appreciate it. i guess i should think twice about that so i don't get rear ended.
you DO want to get rear ended. That's the only way that its almost never your fault. then depending on driving and insurance laws in your location, you can collect a check and spend it on stuff other than repairing your car. It's the new american way.
