Doctors are going to be looking further into the possible benefits of Salvia treatment for a variety of neurological disorders including Alzheimer's disease and illnesses that cause chronic pain. Doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital completed a study recently that examined the effects of salvia or salvinorin A, on humans. Dr. Matthew Johnson, lead study researcher, psychologist and assistant professor of psychiatry at John Hopkins University said, "It is unlike anything that exists." The ironic part being that if and when it is used as a treatment for any medical condition, it will automatically become illegal to use recreationally.
I think it's well on it's way headed there at this point anyway. It's gotten a lot of attention lately... fascinating article though.
i just hope these studies don't make chewing the natural leaves and/or smoking extractions illegal, while making it legal for the pharmas to patent and sell to us the isolated and chemically synthesised salvinorum A, because breaking the law is such a pain in the ass... hey luna... snap
I might regret it later, but I think I just may take my chances with the Alzheimer's. At least Alzheimer's shouldn't rip my reality out from under my feet and make me spend the rest of my existence collectively melting into/becoming every inanimate object I've ever seen in my whole life...
SD knew me before I knew it was popular.. i wasnt really thinking about it though cause there are many herbs you can concentrate and get high from.. a Native American elder told me we had been using it for years, just not in the concentrated version of it .. Its used in smudging.... he later told me they take it to inmates in jail, its the only herb that can slip past the guards with other ritual herbs used in the NA Religions allowed by law in the state pen. < least in this state anyways...
That's interesting that it would be relevant in this part of the country for Native American ceremonies... isn't SD native to only central America and (speculated) primarily used in Aztec et al ceremonies? Hmmm...
yeah, it seems that its an imported herb, not Native at all to ceremonies ... This why I didnt know and thought it to be just another sage bush. Some how it come up in conversaation and I was like "HELL NO FOR REALZ?".. wow, learn something new everyday.. It pays to know old people ..
not the concentrated/extract version, no not at the time. not for the longest time I had only known it as diviners sage.. had smoked the leafs in a joint when I had cold and cough and didnt think anything of the enhanced feeling, as many herds give you a heady high. It its really harsh, but medicinal for sure.. I hadnt learned of the extract til 97-99 somewhere around there but had more insight to it around 02.. Amazed it snuck under the radar for so long.. but its really just the extract i believe being more closely watched..... like mhrb its not really DMT til you make it.. the internet is a hell a research tool.
veddy interestink... yeah, def just the extracted "incense" BS that's in headshops and stuff is what they're mainly looking after. and really, that's not how it's supposed to be used IMO... just personal experience and everything I've known and read of it.
I don't think plants come with an intended purpose. Unless you believe in intelligent design of the universe. it's just molecules reacting to other molecules.
