I don't think it will make it more broken, especially if it's going to save money in a system that is great at burning it. It will make it marginally better. What particularly don't you like about it, and don't say government intervention without saying exactly what and why. Remember government intervention is why lead paint and DDT is illegal among other things.

this means that the government will essentially be running a healthcare company. which gives them a company within the healthcare industry that doesn't function under normal restraints of a healthcare business, since it is supported and run by, the government.

since this company is run by the government it can't grow like normal companies either. it has to grow as a result of legislation. which means that incentive to improve is almost zero. it's very easy to fall to a minimum standard when you are being payed a flat rate by the government, and no matter how much business you have it doesn't change anything. this means it doesn't matter whether the quality of healthcare provided is poor, or great, because the system will still be there no matter what.

now healthcare companies are going to be facing government competition. except, that the government won't function under the normal factors that usually affect healthcare companies, instead it will function at a flat standard. so these providers will be facing competition that doesn't change.

The insurance companies need to go. To recite the litany of chicken -shit moves they make/have made would be redundant. Money re-directed from constant war, eliminating foreign aid,(except for disaster aid) cutting governmental waste, eliminating money from the election process to preclude the cycle of bought and paid for legislators, training MORE doctors, eliminating earmarks, making those that benefit the most from capitalism/this society, pay more ,are some of the issues that would enable us to study the best systems in the world and come up with a better,in fact, the best--the most equitable--and for sure, a more morally justifiable system-than the world has ever known. How our legislators can have as many choices in their healthcare, yet have the balls to vote against healthcare for all --exposes their lack of morality for all to see. No--I don't believe in making people pay money to insurance companies under threat of law. The motherfuckers need to be gone.

This is about as true as Obama being a muslim communist.

You apparently missed the whole health care thing when the public option didn't even pass the senate. Besides if the private insurers are so great, than there should be no worry. It's all about competition right? Well as it stands now insurance companies basically have a gentleman's agreement where they hold monopolies in their own areas. So if government health care is really as evil as it's being made out to be, people will keep their private insurance and only the uninsured who really need it will sign up for it.

CT, as well as other states have state programs for health care for the uninsured, and lo and behold it didn't cause a wave of people dropping their private insurance to take up the state insurance.

    *edit*
Your entire debate seems to built on the dogma of any government intervention is bad despite the fact it seems to be working swingly in other countries. How many other people in other countries face rate hikes of 40% in one year, can be dropped from insurance after getting sick(what the hell is the point in even having it), or have insurance companies only spending 65% of their intake on actual medical bills. Insurance companies are not your friend, they're there to deliver profits to shareholders, and there's a lot of money to be made in the health care business.

Where are you getting this? There is nothing in the healthcare bill that resembles this "goverment health care company" that you refer to. If you are not going to make valid points how can anyone debate with you. Also I feel it is worth pointing out that there is no such thing as a "free market" in the US or anyother first world country for that matter. Almost all types of comerce are regulated to some extant, and that is what alllows buisness to function. People don't sigh contracts or make investments if there is no goverment to enforce them through courts and regulatory agencys. You want a free market, try Somilia, Haiti or some other third world hell hole

Surprisingly in one area Somalia actually is rather well in at least in Mogidishu, a rather wide telecommunications market has formed from a total lack of restrictions, so everyone with money just puts up more lines, dishes, towers, what have you.*

*Cell phone and internet reception though might be patchy during rocket and gun fire attack.

i havn't fully read up on the healthcare bill. although, that is what universal healthcare instated by the government leads to. even if it isn't being instituted now, this sets the precedent.

just because we don't have full free-market economy that doesn't mean that we should just hand over control of our economy to the government. in my opinion, the closer to free market we can get, the better.

i didn't really come here to debate this issue, just to spread information about this petition. if you don't like it, then don't support it.
