I got the 50th anniversary book. Its all three books in one + extra readings. Fold out maps and everything. Its the best one i've seen anywhere. Since the original series was supposed to be one book but couldn't due to printing issues/costs. Amazing book.
wow thats so fucking beautiful, i'm going to have to get that! the fold out maps are awesome, i would like to get the book just to take those out and hang them on my wall
It has everything you need to know except it doesn't have anything from the book The Hobbit. In the link it has a different picture, i don't think they would change the actual book as i showed above. It was $50 when it first came out. Now its 12.56+ seems like a good deal. http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-50th-Anniversary-Vol/dp/0618640150/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1295219162&sr=1-1"]Amazon.com: The Lord of the Rings: 50th Anniversary, One Vol. Edition (9780618640157): J.R.R. Tolkien: Books
I think its the most complete novel ever written in that it has elements of fantasy, romance, horror, intrique, the epic hero quest, etc etc..everything you could ever want in a book. I also love the fact that Tolkien created this whole world and spent years developing the races and languages of the world. it amazes me.
speaking of Tolkien's languages, does anyone know of a website that provides translations from english to Elvish? I don't really care which Elvish language, I think there are a few different ones. I want to get a tattoo of the quote "The road goes forever on and on" in Elvish but I'm having a hard time getting an accurate translation
I just finished two towers last night. Starting Return of the king tomorrow night. Great fucking movies
You really ought to look at Ursula LeGuin's Always Coming Home. It rivals LotR in the background depth of the fantasy world, a post-apocalyptic Northern California. I grew up 'bout half way between Middle Earth and Earthsea.
It’s truly as epic but I swear my first thought when I saw the movie was “The Shire looks suspiciously like Teletubbie Land" Hotwater
I have always been an complete nerd when it comes to Lord of the Rings. I love it, love it, LOVE IT! I also want that book.
IMO its still a distant second to Frank Herbert’s Sci-fi epic Dune which also has all the elements of suspense, religion, royalty and intrigue :2thumbsup: Hotwater
yikes you are making quite a claim there! I will have to check Dune out, I've heard great things about it.
