NOT the Rhythm and calendar method, the mucous and thermometer method. Just needed to clarify that. I was a doof, and forgot to refill my BC pill prescription before the campus dispensary closed this winter. I've been having some cycle funkiness over the last few months anyway, and the hormone-free time feels pretty good. Anyhow, I've been reading up on the Fertility Awareness Method of BC, and I think I like it. I started charting this cycle, and saw that I seem to have ovulated my first month off of the pill. Cool. I'm not using it as our primary method, not this soon. I'll probably be back on the pill as soon as the campus opens up, as my husband's nerves request. But I'm curious. Has anyone else used this method with success? We really don't want kiddies just yet, but I'm not sure if the doctor's going to tell me to stop with this brand of pill and I don't like playing Roulette with my hormones like that anyway. I'm thinking of trying the charts.
I haven't used this method to avoid pregnancy, since I have weird hormonal issues that would make it not work very well, but I have used it to achieve pregnancy. If you do it properly, it can be very effective. If you don't want kids right now but want to avoid hormones, the copper IUD is an option you may want to think about. I used the Mirena for a while, which does have a low dose of hormones, and had a good experience.
