I was raised an Irish Catholic, and Ever since I turned away from the church, Ive felt that Ive been treated really judgementally. Im not generalising, but here in Ireland anyway Catholics can be very self-righteous and judgemental. Its my life, why cant they accept that I should be allowed to practice whatever religion I chose and be who I am. It really Pisses me off. Also Catholics talk about morals: Yes it is indeed very moral, to persicute people because of who they chose to love. I dont understand how the chirch can preach tolerance, and be so completely cruel to homosexuals.
First of all I want to say that I can't look into your heart and don't know for what reasons you 'dropped out' but I hope that you won't blame all christians for the failures of some. So what happened, what are those negative experiences you have with the church? And what do you mean by 'being so completely cruel to homosexuals'?
I have to say when i re-read my post it sounded like I was really being unfair and stereotyping all Xtians, but Thats not the case. I left the church basically because It wasnt me. Do you know what I mean? And on the homosexual point, yeah i realise that sounded like a generalisation, but alot of people here can be really offensive to homosexuals and I dont think its fair. But yet again its a minority within the church
Maybe you collided with the whole structure, organisation, tradition or hierarchy of church? The stupid or even unloving way people can behave, which hurts? The whole religious game, like a puppet-play? Arlia posted on this thread an article named 'I am anti-religious'. have you read it allready? I recommend it, it's very interesting! What do you think of it? And you haven't really told why you 'dropped out'. How was it being raised christian, how was your childhood and youth? Disappointments? Had it maybe to do with the whole catholic vs. protestantism thing overthere also? What did you experience and why did you drop out, what's your life like now?
Whenever I fall down in my practice, I always take my time in getting back up cuz there is so much fun stuff to do down there.
