i dont wanna hear about whether its junk or i should buy a ps3 and shit.

i have 2 360s both have the red ring of death.i have done the x clamp mod on one of them, removed the x clamps, bolted the cooling towers down and used artic silver thermal compound on it.was workin fine and now today i turn it on and the red lights come on.error code 0110.it turned on and froze.

the second hasnt had anything done to it.it has the 0142 code.it was given to me so i know nothing about it.

any tips tricks or ideas?i dont have the money to send them back to microsoft and i really dont want to wait forever to get them back either.

Don't know if this will help since i don't own an xbox. But when i had my playstation2 all of the sudden (after months of hard play) i started getting all kinds of weird errors, most were numbers, when i tried putting in a disc. Well a friend of mine had the same problem. He showed me how to take it apart. We took a pin drop of rubbing alcohol on a clenex and very lightly rubbed the small circle (i don't know what its called) but its what scans the disc.

I was trouble free after that.

Now i would be very suprised if the xbox didn't have something similar as far as the little thing that scans the disc. As soon as a spec of dust gets on em it can bring problems.

Also if you leave your xbox on carpet or even the wood floor i suggest not. Its always the most dirty place even in a clean house. Plus static electricity from carpets kills xboxs, computers, cdplayers, all kinds of electronics.

You are talking about cleaning the laser eye for the dvd-r or blu-ray when talking about a ps3.

The red rig of death is prevalent on older models. It was a cooling issue which after extended use actual got hot enough to allow the cpu to come loose from the motherboard.

Some have made a good living buying up so-called brick on e-bay taking them apart resoldering the cpu and then resell on the bay.

I'd say get a ps3 then take your 2 360's and make 1 good one out of them.

This is where you wrap up the unit and try to get it so hot the cpu reseats itself but is a temp fix.

I again say Ps3 and then install ps3 media server on your computer and stream all pics and movies anywhere in your home on your ps3 from your computer. Eazy peazy the way us stoners need it to be.

CPU coming loose, huh? I've got both an old & a new one, and hadn't decided what to do with the old. It's got the red ring, & if that's the problem I've now got a direction to look for dealing with it. Thanks.
