Well, each to their own. From my view, I don't compare our government to others and ask if its better or not... I look at our government, and ask if it can be better. We have had good prime ministers and poor ones, and overall we have done well... However, our system has never represented all canadians. It does not support open and free communication. It does not lift up the lowest in our society and provide them a way out. In fact, it does everything in it's power to ignore those types. We leave our citizens in the hands of foreign governments to be tortured with no rights. We send our citizens to other countries to fight in wars that were not caused by those countries. There used to be a time when canada WAS known for innovation and environmentalism... and we were heading more and more that way... And we were the laughing stock of the world for it, and the butt of jokes for it... Now, we are little better then puppets of the american machine... Yeah, May is definitely not the type who fits in with the current political climate... She doesnt have the experience of being a lying flip flopping politician... She doesn't have the hard edge of My Way or the Highway such as we have now... She isn't the type to start a war or send people needlessly to their deaths... These are all good things... Do I expect you to change your mind? No... No more then I expect the rest of the voters to actually decide to change the way our country is sliding into chaos... Of course, as was recently said at the G20... This isn't Canada anymore...
My favourite party isnt a federally registered party, Quebec Solidaire, soveriegnty isnt the main focus like it is with Bloc. Id probably go Bloc just because its the only thing Quebec though. I dig the Animal Alliance.. Im new to all this. The States it was so easy haha, It sounds like its still 'the lesser of two evils' kind of thing ..Canadian politics just dont seem to encompass Quebec, when youre actually living here.
Well of course it can be better. That goes without saying but without a comparison of governments and styles then there is no basis to form any logical opinion regarding how just your own governing body is. The role of government is global representation and with that comparison is inevitable. There is no system of government that will represent all Canadians to their satisfaction. There will always be those who feel they are not represented or at least to their ideology of what that should be. Nor do I expect to change your mind. That is what democracy is about.
The MMP system... something the green party has been fighting for. Right now, our system 100% ignores anyone who did not vote for those that win. A MMP system puts people into the government based on the vote of the people... Something we had a chance to get in this province, and passed on due to the majority of people not even getting out to vote, and those that did, didn't take the time to learn about it.
New Zealand has this system. It appears to be working well there. See I did research this at the time. Then you also need to start to blame the apathy of people rather than just those in power, as we both know.
? uhm... Hi, I'm Tom.... I invite you to read some of my works scattered throughout the forum... I think we will be able to agree that I do not need to START blaming people... lol
Not you personally silly! It would make you seem ....... None of the heavy seated provinces want this system in place so this would be an uphill battle. I am not sure when New Zealand did this as it has been a while since I researched it. They have had success with it. The problem is that people will not get out and vote.
It creates a system in which the politicians are forced to co-operate with each other... not just the main two or three parties... It would mean that instead of having someone like layton or ignatief cave in to harper and have harper act like a dictator because of it, there would be representatives from each party that got votes involved... One party caving wouldn't accomplish anything. And its in use in Germany, New Zealand and the UK in various ways and levels... All the bullshit about it leading to a fractured government that doesnt get anything done is just that though... bullshit... It just means you NEVER have a situation like we have just went through with harper. As for the people... well... you reap as you sow...
I read this morning that there may be an announcement of an election as early as next week. I've also heard that one might be held in October. If one were held soon I don't think the Conservatives would do very well after his party's most recent proposal;
