Haven't really looked at the other responses but TO ME it looks like some type of addict. A virtual addict, much like the drones people become after one too many late nights playing World of Warcraft. Or maybe his life is shit and the only world he feels adequate in is made of 1s and 0s, either way his virtual escape is def an addiction.

Stinkfoot was on the right track... I think it was an abandoned complex rave warehouse party and that kid thought he was going to roll on ecstasy, he wasn't feeling the first one so he ended up taking 5 pills but he got heroin based pills cut with ketamine. Some ravers who were playing with that goggle thing earlier in the evening saw him nodding in the corner and offered him to check it out, he obliged and they then stole his shoes and his wallet.

This is the following morning, not sure why his clothes are tattered though...

Well- I can certainly understand the attraction of an escape.
